Only have the da40, but it is awesome; sharp, light, small, fast (AF) and inexpensive.

Were the DA's built with the new cameras in mind and the FA's for the older one's? So wouldn't the DA's work much better on the K**D's and K***D's?

this is a silly topic.

a 31 is completely useless when you need a 77

a 77 is completely useless when you need a 21

a 21 is completely useless when you need f1.8

the cost of these lenses for the most part represents the cost of designing and building them

a cost for performance request between ALL of them is silly.

a better question would be DA vs FA line, in which case the only real factors are speed (and only really important if you actually shoot using very shallow depth of field), and the ultimate quality of the glass (while the FA is better than the DA opticaly, the DA line is by no means garbage, and in fact one of the best quality lenses out there)

also weight and ergonomics, where the DA's win hands down.

also a plus for the DA line, if you drop your gear or someone jacks you, you wont feel as bad.

While the FA77 is an amazing performer as far as I hear, I didn't realize that the DA70 performs relatively close to it...

...That's making me reconsider choosing the FA77 outright against the DA70...

I didn't buy my 31 Limited on any kind of basis concerning value compared to performance are anything like that. Many say the FA 35/2 is 95% of the 31. I wanted that other 5% too. If the build quality of the 35 is similar to the FA 50/1.4 then the build quality of the 31 compared to them is WAY over the top. I love my FA 50/1.4, whenever there was a photo that I wanted to be sure of, the FA 50/1.4 got the call. But the 31 Limited is on another plane. I can only repeat what so many others say about this lens. There is just something about it. To me money is only something that can be traded for something worthwhile and to me the Pentax 31mm f1.8 AL Limited is worthwhile. I've just gotten it and haven't really put it through it's paces yet. I don't know if I will ever realize it's full potential but every picture I've taken with it so far, I sit and stare at in wonder. I mean it really is that good. Imho it's a total package. Anything else is some sort of compromise. Sure the DA's have the quick shift, I'll give that up for the 31. I love shooting wide open and I can't tell any compromise in sharpness with the 31 wide open and it's bokeh is sublime. Stop it down and you've got sharpness everywhere. It's color rendition is out of this world. What flare?
I admit I don't have a lot of experience with a wide range of top quality glass but, by golly, if anything can beat the 31 Limited's total package, it would have to be one hell of a lens.

That is easy, it has to be the ones I own.
Since I've only used those two limited lenses, the choice is easy. I'm happy with both. I had the 21 ltd for a brief time but it couldn't focus for beans and I sent it back. I think I would really enjoy that focal length though.

I can't imagine the current results are helping very much lol...looks like everyone likes everything!

I have the 21, 31, and 43. They are all very good especially because I shoot in that range a lot, but my friend has a 77 and the few times I've used it, I've always wanted one except that having it and the A85/1.4 seems kinda silly.

I can solve that problem for you in a hurry jslifoaw. I'll give you $599 for the 85 f1.4 so you can get a 77mm.

@Eaglerapids: Wow man, that's quite a testimonial for the 31mm. Thanks for sharing.

BTW, would anyone have any idea when Pentax might start to discontinue making the limiteds?

When did they start anyway?

I don't know you well enough to say "HUSH!"... but could you please whisper so Pentax doesn't hear you? :-)

At least until I have a full set?

Thanks.

I think the DA70 with its closeness in quality to the FA77, is the best in terms of value for money. (I still got the FA77 instead of it though, but we are just talking about value for money here ).
Same opinion here. I have a 77 but voted for the 70 as per the poll's question.
But nice to see the 77 numbers fast catching up.

By the way I heard on the grapevine that some stores are now unable to get new 77 stock from Pentax.

Funny, I voted for the 77, but it's the 31 that's usually on the camera. What's a Ltd. thread without some pictures? I'm surprised it took until page 2...

Guess I'm kinda silly I have the FA77, and the FA85/1.4 too. Love the FA85 better, but I do use the 77 more often ...
