Best Limited Lens in terms of Price-For-Performance?

If I could have ALL the limiteds, I'd be a happy camper, really

Right now I have only one, and that's the 40/2.8, but I'm hoping I can inch my way into completing all of them eventually.

I've only searched 6 limiteds in the database... So is that right, there are only 6 so far (going to be 7 with the upcoming 15mm)?

Of all of these, what offers the best price-for-performance?

I don't want to ask what is the best since the more expensive ones most likely outperform the cheaper ones... So to even the playing field, lets just compare the limited lenses in terms of price-for-performance.

To allow a bit of flexibility in the poll, I made it a multiple choice where you can choose up to 2 choices.

I dont own any of the limited yet, but i'd have to say that hte 70 and the 40 are pretty close in the value rankings. The 21 is too wide and too slow for day to day for me and the FA's well, they are like Ferrari's sexy and fast. I cant afford a Ferrari, but I will own me some FA's thats for sure.

Why are the FA's more expensive anyway?

Have they stopped making the limiteds?

Is there a FAQ or something of the sort about the Pentax limiteds anywhere?

Have a look here: http://www.pentaximaging.com/files/product/k10brochure.pdf
towards the last pages there's a bit on the Limited lenses.

I've seen a better pamphlet/flyer but can't recall where it was.

Btw, you forgot to count the 35 Limited Macro coming out soon.

^ It isn't out yet anyway, just like the DA15

Hmm, the cheaper lenses and the DA's are owning the poll so far. Does this mean that the increase in price between the limiteds is not parallel/proportional to the increase in quality?

Well, what is "quality" anyway? Kind of hard to calculate a coefficient for a proportional increase in price/performance. All I know is that while the FA31 is a god-like lens, the 77mm is also pretty damn sweet but only 75% of the price. Is the FA31 33% "better" than the FA77?

I must have some idea as to the answer -- I put down the 77 and 21 as my choices.

Hands down the 31mm and I liked the 77mm better. Ben, have you used both the 70 and 77? I've owned the 77 and loved the lens. I was going to get it again partly for the speed and also the IQ. For you was the 70 a better FL or had better IQ? Both?

For me the best value for money is the 70mm. It's not that far from the 77mm IQ-wise, has faster AF, and the quick-shift is a really useful feature. If there's need for a faster lens, I can always get ZK 85mm 1.4 or A*85mm 1.4

I think the DA70 with its closeness in quality to the FA77, is the best in terms of value for money. (I still got the FA77 instead of it though, but we are just talking about value for money here ). I dont think the DA40 is that great value just because its cheaper than the other limiteds. The FA43 however is very good value and by far the most affordable FA limited.

My votes are for the two I have - 43 and 70 - for precisely the value for money reason, and considering the rebates I got ($100 for the 43, $50 for the 70). They have different personalities, which to me is another plus, and both are very compact but not overly so.
