Good lens poorly executed to keep a pricepoint as far as I can tell...
i don't get how that's possible, as the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 is MSRP 670, and the pentax is 915.. there are ways to keep high quality, and still make it cheap..

Ben, I hope it works out for you. But if Pentax can't even get a good copy of that lens to their professional photographer, what hope does a normal user have of getting a good copy!

Very Strange

As I have only had my K20D's for a short time and have been really busy setting up my Ad Agency, I haven't given them a good work out. Now, this may seem strange. I took my 16-50 lens off of the camera to attach another lens. I replaced the 16-50 back on to the camera and decided to re-test it. I made sure it locked tightly when mounting it. I really tightened it well with the confirmed confident click. Now, I am either totally incompetent or something but, I just re-tested the lens and it is working as I might expect it and am working at 800 iso and the stuff looks really good.

I compressed at 7/12 in PS to get under the 1 meg restriction. Therefore JPEG artifacts that are not apparent in the TIFF version.

What's even more incredible, It was shot at f4.0 at 800 iso....

I just don't get it..I am stumped.

Any comments would be appreciated. This whole thing is getting me really neurotic....

Ben

What about wider apertures? My copy is reasonable from 5.6 and narrower, but the kit lens beat it comprehensively at 3.5 (18mm).

It WAS Shot at 16mm...f4.0. The only wider stop would be f2.8.

Local book store carries it along with just about every other photo mag from Europe and NA . Usually blowing 35-40 bucks a month on them! Anyway, liked all your pictures and interesting story on how you got into the business. Had no idea you lived in Canada for awhile. Cheers!! JIMBO

Center resolution has never been an issue in either of my duds. Here's a 100% crop 50mm f4 from the center.
(Yes I know it's just a cat picture)

This image is even sharper when not converted to JPEG.

That certainly looks sharper than my 16-45 at 16mm f4. I would pay the extra $350 for that...
