Can someone substantiate this? I'm going to search the forum for threads. It behooves me to buy one that is less likely to have SDM failure. If there's an exact SN range, is like to know.

You can get a 7 year warranty for 35 dollars if you buy it new from Adorama. I did, a couple of years ago. But the lens was cheaper then and I got it on sale for about 700 something. I think in the recent past, the cheapest I have seen this lens on sale was probably for 999 or something, so that is an issue. However, the warranty price has not changed...May have got lucky but I have not had any problems with the lens. I have shot it in the pouring rain and in all kinds of weather. AF is not the fastest but meets my needs. If this lens dies for some reason, I would definitely buy another one...Would I buy a used lens with SDM. I dont know.

The 50-135 is my favorite lens, the second is the tamron 17-50, third is the DA 15.

Wow, the DA 15 in last place huh? I don't have one yet. I'd have to say the FA 43 is my favorite lens with the 50-135 being a close second. Here's a pic from the 50-135. The Bokeh is excellent.

And here's a Sharp pic of the 50-135 taken from a boat on the river at F8 135mm.

Its hard to shoot with a wide angle that often. [Though some seem to have no problems]. Composition is difficult and most of the time, you really need to find strong foregrounds and get real close to it too.

Also being in 3rd place among my favorite lens, is not 'last place'. I have lenses I rarely use and one that I have not used in years that would be at last place.
