FA 50mm 1.4 vs Canon 50mm 1.4

Moving from Canon to Pentax has been a good decision for me till now.
Used to love my canon 50mm , and used it a lot. Served me great to take photos of babies in low light.
But from the first few shoots I did with Pentax, I have found that the FA is a higher quality lens than that of Canon.

Mind you, my canon body, 400d was 5 years older than the new k30.
The sessor in K30 has better dynamic range, and inbuilt image stabilization.
So better image quality cannot be necessarily be attributed 100% to the lens itself.

So here it is, I find the pentax has slightly more contrast than the Canon.
The sharpness is little better, and colors come out really nice.
Slightly warmish probably, but that works for the portraits.

Posting some pictures of my little daughter Anushka.
The first one with blue flowers is shot with Canon

The one below in fall colors is the pentax one.

Welcome to the forums and the world of Pentax. You're going to love it here. I'm curious though what made you choose Pentax coming from Canon? I mean where did you come across Pentax? If you don't mind me asking.

Nice photos. The out of focus rendering is a nicer with the FA 50 than with the Canon 50 f1.4 (not seen in your photos, just speaking more generally), but they are both nice lenses.

Welcome to the forums.

I was looking to update my camera body. As I shoot landscapes, I was looking for better dynamic range.
When I looked at the reviews of the new pentax sensors, I was amazed to see that these new bodies can compete with some of the full frame bodies when it comes to dynamic range. Also, the weatherproof body is a good advantage when you go bushwalking/ hiking. One of my mentor has been using pentax system for more than 2 decades, and he suggested that their primes are world class... and it looks like he was right :-)
The forum here has helped my lens choices. I have acquired DA 16-45, FA 50mm, and DA 70mm. Looking to get the FA 35mm or the 31mm (Pending wife's approval :-) )
So far, Pentax has performed very well for me.

Nice shots.
I also had been used canon ef 50/1.4, FA 50/1.4, and nikon 50/1.4G. You should try some of the manual lenses.

canon ef 50/1.4 is not bad, but AF seems to be unprecise from time to time. Using in manual mode can have very sharp wide open. Bokeh is also good.
FA50/1.4 is sharp, but have color fringles.
nikon 50/1.4G is so far best of AF lenses, perhaps best AF system.

Sharpest manual on pentax dslr are pentax K50/1.2, K50/1.4, A50/1.2, Mamiya Tomioka 55/1.4, Yashinon Tomioka 55/1.2 and Olympus 55/1.2.
Zeiss Planar 50/1.4 is not as sharp as the AF lenses at f1.4 but contrastful and different rending.

I don't have FA31, but FA35 is just beautiful and razor sharp, also at f2.0.
