Picked up a new one 50mm/1.2

I really don't need a 1.2 lens. And I already own the 50mm/1.4FA which I used 1 time.

I really like the smooth manual focus on the 50mm/1.2.
The AF confirm is nice also.

Maybe I can get a different focus screen for manual focus???

Anyone else picked the MF 50mm/1.2 over the AF 50mm/1.4??

Lots of folks here have used/owned an f/1.2. I tried it once while visiting carpents' awesome manual focus lens collection. Let's just say I failed miserably at manually focusing it

If you get the focus right, you can get some amazing shots with it though. Since I switched to Canon, I'm very intrigued by their 85mm f/1.2 (which has autofocus but costs $1600 )

I have used the Canon 85mm/1.2
The focus is slow and focus distance is poor.
It was not my favorite lens.

The Canon 85mm/1.8 is very nice.

I have the 85mm f/1.8 and I like it very much. Don't think I'll upgrade to the f/1.2 unless I win the lottery (I don't even play the lottery, but what the heck)

My two fast primes with Pentax were the FA 35mm f/2.0 and FA 50mm f/1.4, and when I switched I went with the 85mm and a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 to space things out a bit more. The Pentax FAs were alot more compact than my Canon lenses.

I agree...
I just switched from Canon to Pentax.

Almost everything is better on the Pentax for me...

I was just playing around with the new lens.
Cannot believe how sharp this thing is!!

The more I use this Pentax K10D the more I like it.

There were things I loved and hated about Minolta and Canon...
But there is only a few quirks on the Pentax camera...

IIRC, then the A50/1.2 is a special order item with pentax and still made to order, but I could be very wrong....

It seems like Matsuiya has a stock pile (though no telling how big the pile is); somebody buys the one they have listed and a few days later a new one shows up. Mine came complete with the push-on rear cap, which I gather means it's new-old-stock rather than a new special order from the factory? Does Pentax currently use the push-on rear caps?

I did some pixel peeping today.

Compared my 50mm/1.2 vs 50mm/1.4 lenses

I shot 1.2 1.4 2.0 and 4.0.

I cannot honestly see a difference as far as sharpness goes. The lenses are probably beyond the limits of the K10D camera.

I did notice the 50mm/1.4 had a touch more contrast wide open.

I dunno if it is worth it or not now... $500 for the 50mm/1.2 and $200 for the 50mm/1.4 (+AF)

$300 could go towards a 31mm/1.8 lens...

But how's the bokeh tho? 1.2 should have better and smoother bokeh, no?
