Very, VERY nice shots! Impressive to say the very least. Either this is a great lens or you are a great photographer - can't have both now can we?

Wow! there's so many replies to this.

Like all things quirky about Pentax, how I wish they made more of this lens.
Seems like it would sell well.
Maybe it was hard to manufacture and keep yields up or that fast (f1.8-f2) 85mm were far more popular and perhaps easier to make.

I like the bokeh of this lens.
It also has a preset aperture design (2 aperture rings), which I find handy as its easier to stop down after focusing at wide open.

I will certainly take some photos of this lens as well as add on to the review here.
Bear with me as I may be a bit slow.

Yes, more please.
and please also note the f-stop on each so we can see how this lens renders.

Bokeh is a bit harsh in some condition, but blurred beautifully in closer distances.
I guess that the subject distance and distance to background do give different bokeh.
Also a bit swirly?

Yes, seems a little swirly.
Not very much, sort of like its a bit 'controlled swirly'.
Bokeh is nice to me, but as with most lenses it will vary a bit with bkgnd type, distance, f-stop, etc.
I've actually got some other shots with non-nature bkgnds (which look pleasant), but my wife's in those photos, so I don't share them.

Here it is....

The Rarest Takumar!

Some sources say that only about 200pcs were ever made.
If its true, then it explains why its so ultra rare.
From its performance, I can also see why anyone who has it will hide in a cave with his 'preciousss.... '

Some call it a 'phantom lens', since no one has ever come up to claim that he/she has one nor are there picture samples.
Since its real, perhaps it should be called "Gollum's lens"

Gollum is also fiction figure

Would you also supply data of the lens on the review section as well?
like aperture blades, mfd, etc, also more photos of the lens itself.
It is truely an unique piece.

I actually quite like that bokeh. It has a very 3D feel. Dunno how much of that is the lens and how much of that is the processing, but it's fantastic!

I guess the frustrating thing about Pentax is they have so many awesome lens designs from the past, that haven't carried forward to the present. It's all about market share, and the cost of redesigning for AF and DG, but the current philosophy around F/4 lenses is truly depressing. I love my 60-250 ƒ4, but honestly, it should have ben 3.5 or 2.8. I'm happy with ƒ4 until that morning in first light with the moose across the meadow, and I can't get either focus lock or an exposure better than 1/15 second. If I'd bought the Sigma 70-200 2.8, I doubt very much that I'd be complaining about the loss of 50mm in the long end.

Reviving an ancient thread, but I just came across one of these lenses for sale at UsedPhotoPro while shopping for something else. (I have no connection to store.) ~Only~ $3685.03! (If it were 3 cents less, maybe I would consider it... )
