Lens advice, future LBA...

My kit currently consists of an 18-55 kit lens, Sigma 70-300mm dg (non apo) and SMC A- 50mm 1.7

I have also very recently haggled for two older lenses: SMC A 70-210 f4 and a
SMC A 35-105 f3.5
Im looking forward to trying out these new additions as from what Ive read and seen both are very capable glass.

My problem now is that Im looking forward to a trip to Yellowstone and would really like to upgrade my kit lens (wide) and for sure upgrade the sigma 70-300mm.

I have been thinking that the Bigma would be perfect for Yellowstone, but I am wondering if the 50-500mm range would make the 70-210 obsolete.
At the wide end I have been considering the 16-45 (realistically) or the 21mm limited orrrr the 12-24mm (ideally).
I think I would be able to swing the 12-24 if I did not get the bigma but than I am stuck on what to replace my sigma with!
Oi vey
Anyone have any suggestions? Or advice?

Much appreciated

welcome to the forum

i don't think the bigma will make your 70-210mm or 70-300mm obsolete unless you find carrying around the bigma + slr comfortable

for wide choices, 16-45 is probably more useful than 12-24 as a walkaround, i have a 21mm and i find i use that focal length a lot more for my photos

For the wide angle I am Mostly thinking about landscapes. Is the 16-45 good enough at the wide end for this purpose?

i've travelled with the 16-45mm and i found it very practical for landscapes. Of course, shooting at 12mm would have been perfect at some occasions, but nothing 2 or 3 shots at 16mm, then stitched(put together in something like photoshop) cannot compensate for. I would think you would have to consider the weight of what you are carrying and the conditions of where you are going. Changing lenses in the field, in humid or dusty conditions are not ideal. The 16-45 is versatile and great glass, and can be used for 'after' the trip.

i think the 16-45 would be ideal for what you want, since it will have more versatility than the other two options. for the tele, are you looking for reach, or speed? if you want reach, why not find a sigma 500 or 600mm mirror lens? they're fairly compact for how long they get you, and are probably easier to trek than the bigma.

also, whatever you do, make sure all of your lenses have protective UV filters when you're in yellowstone. the gases and moisture released from the sodium and sulphur are caustic and can chemically etch and ruin front elements

For Landscape I would advice you the 12-24 or the Sigma 10-20. The bigma is heavy and you would take the best of it with a tripod. If carrying weight is an issue, I would stay with the lenses you have+ a superwide angle.
