In the old film days to get a major starburst effect, I used a broken filter's surround and stretched screen door mesh over it!

Years ago, for fun, I did this for a wedding pic of the bride & groom's rings in B&W and it turned out OK. A bit uncontrollable if you have multiple light sources, though!

But now with lightroom / PS, you could combine 2 shots. Hmmmmm....

These were all shot on my DA15. It's pretty easy to accomplish once you stop the lens down to at least f8.

Night shots seem to bring them out. This is from a couple of years ago with my K10D and DA 15. This is at the handheld limit (at least for me) with the K10D. F/6.7, 1/6 sec at ISO 1600.
