Tamron vs Sigma: 24-135

Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone has done or know of any comparison between Tamron 24-135 and Sigma 24-135? I know Sigma is a little faster 2.8-4.5 vs 3.5-5.6 but I am more interested in the lens performance, eg image quality, CA and distortion. I am leaning more towards Tamron because it is one of their SP lenses, closer min focus distance, better "macro", and smaller size. But I haven't seen any comparison between them.

Thanks

Kenny

Although I don't have the Tamron, I do have the Sigma and feel it's a solid lense. It's a bit soft wide open but sharpness is there when you stop down. I posted some sample shots on the forum :

Thanks Toshi. I have actually seen quite a few people buying the Sigma lens but not many people mentioned about the Tamron. But I have read some very positive reviews at FredMiranda website even though most of them are Nikon and Canon users.

I am not very keen of Sigma because of some bad past experience with Sigma but if Sigma proves much superior, then I will consider it.

cheers

I own the Sigma and I really like it. Aside from it's girth which can get kind of annoying, for me it takes great shots, I actually like it more than my DA 50-200. While it is not a "macro" lense, it does perform well in that area, much better than the DA does I got this shot with it, https://www.pentaxforums.com/gallery/index.php?n=155 I couldnt get that with the DA.

Thanks Buddha for your feedback. The reason I was considering the 24-135 FL is that I wanted a walk-around lens that would fit 90% of my shooting style and personally I prefer Tamron over Sigma for its construction and there is no report of compatitbility problem with Tamron. However, I have just realized that I have got FA28-70/4 and Tamron 28-75/2.8 covering the similar range. They are not as wide nor long but I guess I could always zoom with my feet and save the money for something else, maybe the DA50-200 to complment my kit lens, or maybe the Sigma 70-200/2.8 =) Not likely but one can always hope!

cheers

Tamron 24-135

I have had one of these for about 3 years. I used it on my film cameras more than I do on my istD but I always got good shots from it. Bit heavy and does not come out as often now that I have the 2 DA kit lenses.

Cheers

I've been considering the Tamron as a general purpose studio lens for quite some time. I'll probably go with it once I find some extra cash for it, and I actually HAVE a studio. From everything I've seen and heard, it's a great lens.

I just bought the Tamron a couple of months ago. Its a very solid lens and feels well made. It can show some flare when shooting towards the sun and the zoom ring does feel a little stiff (though I suspect this will loosen with more use).

Images are sharp and the colours are nice. I haven't really noticed any issues with focus. The zoom range is excellent and I leave it on my DS most of the time now. (The 16-45 is a close second)

Owned the Tamron.....

In a Nikon mount in the Film Days.... It was an EXCELLENT lens.. A bit heavy, but very solid and very sharp. Always thought it was similar to a Nikon 28-105 (which was one of the better mid zooms they ever made - IMHO) but with a better range..... Just missing the "OEM moniker".. :-)

I've acutally considered getting one for my K10D.

Has anyone compared either of these 24-135s to the Pentax FA28-105 3.2-4.5???

I would like the extra 4mm on the wide end for a walkaround lens, and of course the extra length, but am curious if they are on par, above or below the Pentax I already have??
