FA 80-320mm doesn't work in f"A" position

Hi,

I've received yesterday used 80-320mm just to discover that lens doesn't work when aperture set to f"A" When I set it to it just acts as it would be set to f32.

I've cleaned lens and camera contacts, and tested lens on two cameras. FA 50mm warks like a charm.

Of course it isn't likely but maybe you know quick way to fix it?

At the risk of insulting your intelligence, I'll state the "obvious".

There should be a small button on the aperture ring which needs to be pressed in order to allow it to go into the A position. Once in the A position releasing the button should lock it there, requiring it to be pressed again to move it out of A.

Having said that, I have at loeats one lens that requires some encouragement to get into A, and can then (with some force) be moved out of A "accidentally" without using the button.

I hope this helps, but I fear it probably doesn't.

Simon

Well, would it be so obvious, I would figure it out long ago. Unfortunately, aperture ring snaps into "A" position but everything just stays as it would be in f32...

there is a contact that comes out when it is put in "A" and retracts when out of "A" see if it moves in and out unless you tried this already. Hope this helps

Got a link to that thread for future reference? I couldn't find it. Nasty search engine in DPR. Even DPR posters agree.

This is tranq78 post on DPR:

This is a problem with some of the early FA80-320's, especially the black ones. I bought one from flea-bay and it had the same problem. I took it to an authorized Pentax technician who looked at it. Apparently there is a chip that needs to be replaced... he quoted the cost to fix at over $100.

I didn't bother getting it repaired. The lens only cost me about $100 and I can easily use the aperture ring to set the f-stop. So the problem was no big deal for me.
