HELP! New Sigma 17-50 can't autofocus?!?

I don't understand why this isn't working. everything I focus on wont focus. Just keeps coming back not in focus. Or the lens will focus on a thing in the corner and I have center focus selected.

Did I get a bad lens? Seems like it....really a bummer.

I am using it on my K-01. really bummed me out, was going to use in Yosemite this weekend, really bummed.

Possible reasons I can think of:
1. Doesn't like my K-01 for some reason?
2. Focus is defective (as many other internet posts seem to say)
3. i cant think of any other reason....

really considering switching to the Tamrom version of the same lens. I know its a bit less in quality than the Sigma but I don't want to continue to deal with this issue.

Also, the pentax tripple review on here is for the OS version but OF COURSE adorama doesn't sell that one. It appears that maybe the OS version fixed the bug? I know we dont need the OS, but if Adorama is NOT selling new model and only older one, then I feel really confused.

Should I try a 2nd sigma? Or swap for a Tammy?

The switches were fine. Both set to AF. Just tested on my 200d, same issues. Not able to focus at 17mm on a door 10 feet in front of me. tried on several things, no focus.

From the Sigma website:

QuoteQuote:
HSM stands for Hyper Sonic Motor. It is a new type of motor used in some of Sigma’s newer lenses. The technology employed is similar to that used in certain lenses made by other camera manufacturers. The benefits of HSM system are: virtually silent autofocus function, very quick responsive autofocus function. Sigma is the only independent lens maker offering lenses with this technology. We have a number of HSM type lenses for Canon and Sigma AF cameras, and we also have several HSM lenses for Nikon AF cameras (N55, N65, N70, N75, N80, N90, N90S, F100, F4s, F5, D1, D1X, D1H, D100 and D70, as well).

Is the camera firmware up to date on both?

I recently picked up a Sigma circular fisheye lens with HSM and at first it would not work at all on my K10. I posted here and it was suggested that I make sure the firmware was the latest, but if you are already there then I'm not sure what the issue may be. Perhaps you might try contacting Sigma, here: Contact Us | Sigma

See if they have any clue.

Somewhere I read that the K-01 has a different AF system than other Pentax cameras. Saying the K-01 has a CDAF system. That the lens needs to be re-chipped for CDAF. SIgma does it I guess for free. I just pay shipping...

I have this exact lens and it works perfectly on both my K-5 and K-01. Is your focus lock button engaged? Have you tried removing the lens and re-attaching it? Can you try the lens on another body to eliminate the chance it's your K-01?

removed and reattached a few times. Focus lock? do you mean the AF/MF switch that is set to AF as is the one on the lens. Is there another AF lock?

Tried it on a k200d, same results as on the K-01. Did you buy your lens new? or used? Maybe someone re-chipped yours?

I am getting really confused now....
