what happened to all the kit lens?

sold my K100D with the kit lens (think it was 18-55mm or something like that) and bought a K30. Thought it would be easy (and cheap!!!) to pick up another kit lens along the way, but can't find any.

Where did they all go?

KEH is hoarding them. They have almost forty of them right here. Looks like they have every version, even the newer WR ones:

It's a good one, but not so good if you've got the LBA.

I used to live just a few miles from their warehouse in Atlanta, so I've gotten a few of my lenses from them. Their prices are a little higher than what you can sometimes find on eBay, but they're absolutely trustworthy. Any lens they list as better than "ugly" (UG) would probably be listed as "mint" on eBay.

I expect that most of the kit lenses are still with the cameras they shipped with. I still have mine and will likely sell it with the camera, though if the camera dies I will look you up!

I have two, sitting in kit boxes in a closet,
that made my K-x cameras a few dollars cheaper
than they would have cost as bodies alone.

Sorry, guys. I didn't realize I was walking into an AA meeting and announcing a blowout sale at the liquor store across town...

Free beer TOMORROW.
I have an unused, in box 2004 model 18~55 here. I suppose there are many like that lying around.
But I do use my other one, with a Hoya filter that is getting deteriorated from cleaning birthday cake and fingerprints and grit etc.
The filters cost more than the lens.

I recently did a test between the kit lens and my Smc Pentax 1:2.8 24mm.
The 24mm has a contrast problem in comparison to the 18~55 and I think it has lens cement separation, if I look down, in the front group can be seen dozens of round transparent dots in a circular area covering most of the lens but not the outer.

For most people it just really isn't worth the hassle selling a lens for $40-50. I'd suggest posting a listing in the wanted section - I'd go for the WR version as well, should be able to procure one for around $100 (might be easier if people buy it in the new K50 kit as the DAL version if you are patient!).

Paul, I think I was not clear enough that the problem is with my Smc Pentax 1:2.8 24mm
My kit lenses are fine and I don't need one of those.

Like Paul mentioned earlier,
it's hardly worth it for either of us,
since they're just the non-WR DA L version.
