One that got away!!

Darn I just tried to haggle a better price for a lens that already was low... And lost it

Sigma 70 - 200mm f2.8 EX DG HSM OS..could have scored it mint for $750
Oh the pain

Anyone else have a similar story of one that got away?

Now back to crying in my beer

Cheers

Randy

Yeah, I had a chance to pick up an F28 f2.8, F50 f1.7 and F70-210, all of them in mint condition complete with boxes for $300. All I had to do was drive about 100 miles from Palm Springs to L.A. I waited a little too long and the guy ended up selling the set to someone else. I kicked myself in the @$$ for a while, I'm over it now since I have acquired those lenses and then some.

There are a lot of lenses in the sea. You'll get lucky again.

I remember the Tokina AT-X 828AF PRO 80-200mm F2.8 slip through my fingers.
I didn't know much about the lens when I saw it and the case and the box staring at me in a store in Tokyo for around 20,000 yen (peanuts).
I didn't have the cash on me at the time and had to check the lens out on the net before I could be sure.
Needless to say it had gone by the time I'd researched it and headed back there.

Last year there was a Black Spotmatic with a Super Tak 50/4 macro on Craigslist for $100 for several months. I let it go because I already have a 50mm macro...

I didn't hesitate at all when a FA 50/1.7 along with a PZ-70 & Tamron 28-200 came along for $100 on Craigslist. I just had to make a 200 mile round trip to pick it up.

Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 90/2.5 (52BB) was listed on a local online used-market site.
I think I saw it only a few minutes after it was posted. A decent asking price, but just a wee bit higher than I was comfortable with for an older used lens. So, I hesitated, hemmed and hawed, then decided gee, I should get it. Of course - the lens was gone. Kick, kick.

"Them" that got away...

This was back in 2012 on Craigslist when a photography studio cleared out his Pentax gear: A DA* 50-135 ($500), DA*16-50 with bad SDM ($200), F*300($700), 50mm f1.4 ($90), Tokina 28-85 f4 ($20), K10D w/kit lens ($450) or $1500 FOR ALL!!!

Yeah, I have a sob story also. A month after I bought my k-x a lady was selling an old camera on craigslist for $25. Attached to the camera was a super takumar 85 f1.8. She took a picture of it for me. I told her I would give her $5 for the lens. What a freaking idiot. Whatever. I didn't realize what type of legend that lens was!

Moral of the story is...If you see a lens or camera in an ad that is unfamiliar, do the research...

I missed a mint Zeiss 75mm f/1.5 in M42-mount for 40€($53, £34) a few weeks ago but there was still a Helios 40-2 to be had for 30€($40, £26) so I guess I shouldn't be complaining...
