SMC M 28mm f2.8 or ?

I've had a Kx and loved it, but it's time to upgrade, so I've ordered a K30 and am eagerly awaiting it. I have a 50mm 1.4 prime lens and the 18-135 zoom, both of which I like. Thinking about adding another prime. I crave the DA 35mm f2.8 ltd but it's a bit out of my price range for now. Looking on Ebay, I see a number of the SMC M28mm f2.8 lenses available for very reasonable prices. Has anyone used this lens with a K30? How has it been? Any other alternatives that you would suggest? Thanks!

If you are after a 28mm (i.e., a normal on APS-C) lens, I can highly recommend the Sigma 28/1.8 EX.

Very sharp, nice bokeh, and super versatile due to the close focusing ability.

I spent a whole $38 on my Rikenon-P 28mm f/2.8 and it gave me some amazing images. My copy of this particular P lens does not have a dangerous 'Ricoh pin' to stick in the AF drive slot. I was just looking through my hike images from last October, and the Rikenon 28 just looks special...

There are so many options.
I have a SMC Pentax 28mm F3.5 and love it.

Would imagine a SMC Pentax-DA 35mm F2.4 AL might appeal? Pretty highly thought of and with auto aperture / focus. Some day I might get one if I don't end up getting the Samyang 35mm F1.4 instead!

i have Pentax M 28mm F3.5 on K-30 i find out it's pretty sharp and easy to focus but mine got some problem with focus to infinity there is a treads teach you how to fix so that not a problem anymore.

if you try to photo landscape or street that lens is good for doing it but if you want bokeh maybe sigma one better. or try Tamron 17 - 50 F2.8 i hear it got alot of good review from it

I have not tried the M28 f/2.8, but people say that it is significantly inferior to the f/3.5. I have the f/3.5 and it works very well on the K-x and K5, as no doubt it would on the K30. There's not that much difference in price. Still better is the slightly larger and heavier SMC 28mm f/3.5, which really is excellent, and not that expensive. On APS-C, I prefer 28mm to 35mm for general use, although if you want AF the plastic-mount DA35 f/2.4 is fantastic value, with excellent performance.

So yes, I think there are better alternatives to the f/2.8.

Choices, choices ...

I have the M 28/2.8 and I love it. For the kind of money you pay for it's a no brainer. And if you don't like it you can sell it at no loss except what you paid for shipping.

I love its rendering and it's very sharp stopped down a bit. Wide open it's not super sharp but still very usable. The colours and contrast are great. It's one of the lenses I use most.

I used it first on a K-x and it wouldn't focus well at infinity. But on my K-5 I give it a focus adjustment of -10 and it works fine. This is of course only needed if you use the green hexagon focus confirmation. (Focus adjustments are different from kit to kit: both cameras and lenses are built to tight but not absolute tolerances and no two copies of the same lens/camera are exactly the same. Hence, one camera might need one adjustment with a lens and another camera a different adjustment with the same lens. And vice versa. Or maybe work fine without adjustement. But I think you can do focus adjustments on the K-30 so it shouldn't be a problem.)
