Pentax K lenses - Camera displaying F

Just picked up a Chinon 200mm f2.2 and a Tamron 2x converter for next to nothing (I also got a SMC Pentax F 50mm f1.7) but when I put them on the camera I get no response and the camera just displays F - -. How do I get the camera to take pictures with them on please? The Pentax lens works billiantly btw - a bargain for ten quid I reckon.

You need to enable the use of aperture ring in the custom menu of the camera.

That will get the lens working. But to meter you will have to use M mode and the Green button.

Depending on the camera model
(and the TC behaviour if that's what you're using),
pressing the Av button in M mode
should automatically set the correct shutter speed
for the aperture you have selected with the aperture ring.

Done it, selected aperture, pressed green button to select shutter speed and then pressed the shutter (first thing I did was focus confirm). Dead pleased because I got all three bits of glass plus a small tripod for £30. I now have the equivalent of a 600mm lens on a 35mm camera and because the 200 is quite fast, it all works ok.

One question though. Are you sure it's a 2.2? I've seen Chinon F/3.3s but never a 2.2.

It's a 3.3. Squinted at it while hurrying a post.

Now I know this: SMC PENTAX-F 50MM F1.7 AUTOFOCUS LENS FOR PENTAX FILM/DIGITAL SLR'S | eBay is probably a ridiculous amount for this lens but it is sure as hell making me feel good about the tenner I paid
