pentax and sdm/dc/usm lens is not very good combination
You really should take DC out of that statement. As some of the prior posts have pointed out, the DC autofocus motor in the DA 18-135 has a much lower failure rate than the SDM motors. It is also noticeably faster than the screw drive focus in the 18-55 kit lens, even though the mass to be moved is greater. Finally, even if I turn up the volume on my hearing aid, it is silent.

Should be back in a week or so.

The issue the lens suffered from is probably the same as the one described in this LensRentals blog post.

well well well... i bought a 60-250 on ebay and it was horribly de-centered. super disappointing, but the seller (in illinois) immediately accepted the return, so no worries there. i did a search on the forums to help diagnose the problem, and found the same lens here:

No. 9227449 - SMC Pentax-DA* 60-250mm F4 ED [IF] SDM Serial Numbers - Pentax Serial Number Database - PentaxForums.com

and possibly the same one in this thread. thanks for filling out the lens database!

I borrowed one when I met up with a fellow forum member who was visiting nearby and it is too bad you had the poor lens sent as a purchase because when it is in proper condition, it is a lovely lens with amazing IQ. And it really isn't as slow to focus as some folks say. (it is not a 55-300 PLM, but what is?) Keep looking and hopefully you find a keeper.
