SIGMA 50-500 “BIGMA” Zoom “old vs. new

Dear all,
Who has any “comparative experience” with the SIGMA 50-500 “BIGMA” Zoom “old vs. new”.
My question in particular: Is it worthwhile to up-grade from the older non HSM version to the new one?
What advantages are there - if any ??
I’ve got the K-5 and have the older BIGMA and I’m contemplating this up-grade.

(OPTION: Are there any alternatives - I also do occasional videos, so the usual cropping would be rather difficult...)

Thanks for any feedback – or helpful links, if this topic was discussed elsewhere before

The OS version that I have is interesting in that the OS "wakes up" when you press the shutter button halfway. At first it was a little annoying, but now that I am used to it, and realize there is a bit of a lag, things are good. I suppose all OS lenses do this.

I have been contemplating the same thing. The new version might be better at long distance.
Some about this have been discussed here:

thanks for this link. Interesting, especially the partly contradictory findings…..

I had the opportunity to quickly “test” the new BIGMA, when I had the older one serviced.

One of the key points was the speed and accuracy of the autofocus: Both lenses tended to “overshoot” on some occasions– only the new model was much quieter (HSM) - whether it was eventually quicker in focussing correctly I could not decide in this very quick check-.

Hence: I may just hang onto the older model; as the new BIGMA happens to be slightly heavier and somewhat bulkier.

Furthermore, I COULD use the old one with my old LX Camera, if I ever wished to do so - the new one no longer sports a manual aperture ring .

I had the old Bigma also. Sold it and bought the new one. Hands down, the new one was sharper. Especially at 300-500mm range. I sold my Bigma since I live in the city now and don't get the opportunity to do wildlife photography. However, I f things change in the future, I will be buying another BIGMA OS immediately.
