My beloved Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 is damaged - please help

Hi Guys,

Was at a family party this weekend and stupidly left my camera out of the bag and on the grass. One of my eldery relatives accidentally trod on it It seemed fine and first but then I noticed it was stiff to zoom, now it seems as if the barrel is out of alignment somehow if that makes sense? Basically the focal lengths don't line up so fully extended at 50mm is way past the 50mm mark. Also the zoom ring seems loose and makes some funny noises.

I'm not really sure what to do as my insurance excess is 150 - i'd like to get it repaired if poss. Does it sound like a simple fix? I'm good at stripping things down and rebuilding so would have a go myself if it's a simple fix. Otherwise are there any lens repair companies in the UK that you would recommend? How much do you think i'm looking at?

Thanks in advance,

Alex

You might try a partial disassembly yourself, Remember to mark component orientation as some lens elements have slotted mounts for adjustment. You might be able to pop it back into the track is the plastic is not cracked.

If it was on their property--discuss with them and if they agree--send a letter saying what happened and requesting they submit to their insurance--may not be a deductible then!

Great thanks this is what I was hoping to hear. Do you know where I might go to find a disassembly guide? How much do I need to remove in order to get to the zoom ring? I figured I'd start at the back and remove the screws then go from there!

I partially disassembled one from the front. I do not know how far you need to go to access the focusing helicals.
