35mm f2.4 worth buying if I have the 40mm XS?

I'm not really in love with the 40mm XS lens that came with my K-01. I rarely use it, in favor of my 50mm f1.7 or my Tamron 28-75 f2.8. I've heard good things about it, that it's the same optically as the limited lenses... but it just doesn't do it for me. Would I like the 35mm better? Are there any advantages over the 40mm XS?

Slighly faster, slightly wider - I'd guess you might like it slightly more!

If the 40 doesn't work for you I'd be surprised if the 35 would be magical. Are there any places in your zooms that you favor, to maybe indicate that DA21 or 70 might be more appealing? My 40 Limited is magical to me, so it's hard for me to give many great options...

What is your goal? Faster? Wider? And what about the 40XS do you dislike? is it the focal length, body, or pictures it produces?

It's just... lackluster. The FA-50 1.7 seems to take better photos in all lighting conditions. Punchier colors, creamy bokeh, always beautiful. Dreamy and sharp at the same time. I will try and come up with some comparison photos.

Sorry to bring this back, but I find myself kind of in the same boat. Plus the fact that DA 35mm is on sale. So Charles did you end up getting the 35? Anyone else have both of these? The XS with its 60mm equivalent is just a little tight for me.

Hi Charles
I would give serious consideration to a 43 1.9 limited. I only had it for a short time but I am hoping to get another one again sometime.
I am getting an xs through a trade and might be able to do a mini comparison between the two.
What is the main purpose of the lens?

Cheers and good luck

I have both the DA 40 (not the XS, but no difference) and the 35. As noted above, it's slightly faster, slightly wider, and also has a slightly closer minimum focus distance. The latter two factors make a difference to me; I like the 40, but prefer the 35 especially for indoor shots. If you do get the 35 I'd recommend using a hood (especially outdoors)--I've noticed quite a difference between shots with/without a hood.
