I have been fighting LBA for the past week or so,eever since the DA* 200 F2.8 hit the store shelves. I have found it in stock as low as $959.00 and I have came really close to pulling the trigger several times.

If I can just stop buying 50mm-ish lenses that would be a start. It's hard when you can snatch a Super Tak 55mm 1.8 for $23 (shipped) and it happens to come with a nice old working H3v attached.

I did use the FA31 with film last weekend, and man, I now *need* something wider than 50mm effective for digital.

Well, at one stage I almost sold all my manual focus lenses but then I realized that I enjoy collecting cheap (but excellent) old manual focus lenses. I still use them, either because I can't justify buying the AF version (eg K85/1.8 for FA77), or I want to slow myself down and enjoy taking photos more (there is something about turning the focus ring and bringing a photo into focus that AF just can't achieve).

cheers
Kenny

Given I bought first a K100D, then a K10D, then a couple old (fast) manual lenses, I have promised the family that I would not buy anything else the rest of the year, but NEXT year, a lens like the new Tamron 7-200mm F/2.8 would be good (assuming the reviews come back positive)!!

I did kick it (or at least slowed it down) with a very simply trick...I jumped to one of my other addictions like HD-DVD collecting (now that they can be found cheap) and now to computer upgrades building a new HTPC....its a cycle of addicitions and I will come back to LBA soon.

Hi, my name is Paul . . .

I quit by looking over my shoulder at a 12' x 12" shelf completely full of neatly organized lenses (M42 and K), cases, camera bodies (M42 and K) , refconverters, hoods, extension rings, manuals and assorted bits of Pentax addenda, all ready to be sent to eBay.

The pain of shooting, entering in TurboLister and auctioning and shipping all that stuff has cured me.

Today I DID NOT BID on a very nice Vivitar PK/A S1 70-210 ver. 3 with no zoom creep, good cosmetics and perfect glass. I watched it go off for $134 - I would have paid that!!

But I'm consoling myself by knowing that my next lens is a new FA 35/2 before they are gone forever.

As soon as I sell this stuff . . . .

I don't know if I'll ever be quite cured of it. It seems like when I decide what I want once and for all, then yet another possibility pops up. Some ideas that have been floating around in my head include:

--adding a WA prime--something in the 20-24mm range, preferably with an aperture ring
--upgrading my telezoom--the 55-300, *60-250, and 70-200/2.8 are possibilities
--a dedicated macro, if it turns out that I'm not that happy with the Vivitar 2x macro teleconverter
--adding the 77 Ltd. to go with the 43 and the 20ish prime. If I like the macro teleconverter well enough, it and the 77 might make a great pairing.
--while it's not a lens, a manual film body. I've thought about getting another AF body, but there's just something that I really like about those manual bodies, hence wanting aperture rings on all my primes

In total, I'm looking at $1500-2000 more to fully satisfy my LBA at this point if I were to get everything in the above list.

Heather

I saw that lens. I love my A70-210 too much to cheat on it with another lens. I actually watched that one for a while, but I want t by at a discount. The market for K-mount stuff is inflated big time.

Agreed - especially that one since the Viv is so widely known from a PDML member's website <|;>) And the M42 stuff is through the roof.

So I'm actually trying to learn the craft rather than merely fondling lenses. 864 actuations on my K10D in 3 weeks - maybe not a lot on this forum, but I never took 864 slides in three weeks.

After a year or so and a couple of dozen lenses bought and sold (some twice or thrice), I'm down to:
DA 21mm
FA 31mm
FA 77mm
I have happily sat on 21/43/77 for several months, but recently you guys talked me into believing 31 is a must-have {Finn you were the biggest culprit }. Plus the Aussie$ has risen high I could not resist anymore therefore one is on the way, to make it 21/31/43/77.

For my level of photography 31 & 43 are too close I think I will retire the 43 soon even though it has served me well. So here's another 21/31/77 combo.

How do you do it? Do you wean yourself off slowly? Or do you just go "cold turkey"?

I was looking at my purchases from the last month or so:

2/12 K1000 with Pentax-A 50mm/f1.7 & Pentax-A 70-210mm/f4
2/22 J.C. Penney 135mm/f2.8
3/01 Soligor 24mm/f2.8
3/02 Gemini 2X PK-A Teleconverter
3/05 Sears 135mm/f2.8 Macro
3/12 Super Takumar 105mm/f2.8
3/13 Tamron-F 135mm/f2.8
3/15 Pentax-A 35-135mm/f3.5-4.5
3/15 Spotmatic w/Super Takumar 50mm/f1.7 & Vivitar 28mm/f2.5
3/17 Vivitar 2x Macro Focusing Teleconverter, Vivitar Automatic Extension tubes

It's not as bad as it was the previous month was. Before, I would buy stuff not knowing whether it was going to fit with the stuff I already had. What I've realized is that even though the goal to have the best equipment I can afford, there still has to be a method to the madness. Now, I'm spending more time zeroing in on specific items instead of buying something just to try it out or because a deal was too good to pass up.

I think I'm getting closer to the finish line. I can almost see light at the end of this tunnel. I just need to clear out the stuff I don't need and work on getting a long telephoto lens. At that point, I think the LBAing should be over.....at least that's what I'm telling myself.
It'd get a lot worse if you start to buy those Star and Limited lenses ...
