mine is under perfect control. I bought a 16-45 (and body) on Thursday, a 50-135* on Friday, and a 77 ltd on Saturday. Sunday I rested. Today I bought a 31 ltd.

Yup...very controlled.

I'm grumpy....I'm quite tired of LBA posts and gear mongering....

I kicked my lens buying and selling 18 months ago and never looked back. It took a little while to get my lineup, but it was a focussed effort, and now that it's done, it's done.

For just over $1500 I have a full series of m42 SMC Takumar lenses that go from 17-500mm without dipping below f4.5, will last 30 more years, and mount on any camera.

Until the lenses become the limitation and not my skill, this is the end-of-days for LBA.

Me too.

Buying and selling is normal to find what you like. Now, I have found 4 (maybe 5) lenses I'm never selling. Had I not bought them in the first place, I would have never used them.

And it just so happens I have almost all focal lengths covered. 16, 24-50, 90 (and macro), 80-320. These lenses have permanent homes in the bag.

Wow! 5 pages later and this thread is still alive. Proof that LBA will probably outlive us all!

With the right medications, I think I now have it under control.....but I don't think I'll ever find the cure. There are still a few lingering effects that have me lusting after a few things that I probably don't need (like a macro lens when I really don't do macros). Something fast in the 85mm-105mm range might worth jumping on (I really miss my Super Tak 105mm/2.8). The DA55-300 has been lurking for quite some time, but I'm happy with the 70-300 Tammy and the DA10-17 FE I picked up instead.

Yep, the LBA is under control, but that K200D is calling me.....can you hear it?

I think I am done. I wrestled with the idea of some more prime lenses but I cant see me buying them when the zooms I have perform so well. The DA35LTD is a great daily driver for me. And Pentax doesnt have anything else on the roadmap that peaks my interest except the upcoming SDM TC, but I have two Tamron 1.4x TCs so even that is iffy. I think I am done buying lenses.

The only lens I am planning on getting soon is a macro. This will be used for true macro work (copying small photos and slides) and also for normal portraits. I'm starting to lean towards the Tamron 90mm f2.8.

I have my Lensbaby for the artsty portrait stuff.

So, have I kicked my LBA?

I'd say yes, but then again, it has morphed into something else: ARTPBA. (Anything Related To Photography Buying Addiction)

I'm content with the lenses I now have, but plan on spending the money which could have gone towards buying lenes on backgrounds, props and models.

My goal is to get better results with the lenses I have.

Mike

How do you do it? Do you wean yourself off slowly? Or do you just go "cold turkey"?

I was looking at my purchases from the last month or so:

2/12 K1000 with Pentax-A 50mm/f1.7 & Pentax-A 70-210mm/f4
2/22 J.C. Penney 135mm/f2.8
3/01 Soligor 24mm/f2.8
3/02 Gemini 2X PK-A Teleconverter
3/05 Sears 135mm/f2.8 Macro
3/12 Super Takumar 105mm/f2.8
3/13 Tamron-F 135mm/f2.8
3/15 Pentax-A 35-135mm/f3.5-4.5
3/15 Spotmatic w/Super Takumar 50mm/f1.7 & Vivitar 28mm/f2.5
3/17 Vivitar 2x Macro Focusing Teleconverter, Vivitar Automatic Extension tubes
It's not as bad as it was the previous month was. Before, I would buy stuff not knowing whether it was going to fit with the stuff I already had. What I've realized is that even though the goal to have the best equipment I can afford, there still has to be a method to the madness. Now, I'm spending more time zeroing in on specific items instead of buying something just to try it out or because a deal was too good to pass up.

I think I'm getting closer to the finish line. I can almost see light at the end of this tunnel. I just need to clear out the stuff I don't need and work on getting a long telephoto lens. At that point, I think the LBAing should be over.....at least that's what I'm telling myself.

Don't kid yourself, you may have some small respite but LBA is a lifelong affliction for which there is no cure for so long as you are breathing.

In fact....

It goes beyond that because if family inherit your gear, then they too will embark upon the same endless journey.

So just bask in it, resistance is futile.

Cheers
Grant

Let's see, 3--maybe 4 more lenses and my LBA should be cured, too.

What I have left:
Sigma 10-20
DA 21
DA 70
A, F, or FA 50/1.4 or 1.7 (the maybe)

Maybe I'll have it all by the end of 2009.

There is no way in hell that I will ever kik LBA.
The only thing that kerbs my spending is an empty bank account.

At least the M42s I have been getting recently aren't too badly priced ... especially when compared to image quality.

Kick the LBA habit? That's a joke.

The only way you can kick the habit is if you own *all* the Pentax lenses and even then, Pentax will be releasing more in the future, so there is *no* respite!

You have to realise that LBA has you in it's grip and there is no escape.

Well, I took a chance on this being the right Jupiter-9 (and hopefully a good copy). I couldn't really go wrong at that price. Luckily, the seller is about 25 miles from me, so I may have it by Saturday. I was tempted to offer to pick it up!

Hah. I can imagine it. Carrying a camera bag and that briefcase, then packing out the camera on the street, and taking out what looks like a bazooka and mounting it on the camera. The looks.
