Pentax 50-20 vs the Sigma 70-300

Newby (who is off to a bad start as I just posted this same question in the wrong category). Currently have a Pentax digital with the stock 18-45(?). The majority of our photos are of the kids outdoors (soccer etc), but with a trip to Disneyworld happening, I thought it time to upgrade. Although it's not an apples to apples comparison, any suggestions re the Pentax 50-20 vs the Sigma 70-300 (not the ASO model)? Quality?
Thoughts are appreciated. Thx in advance....

Seems you are getting more replies in the other thread. Maybe the mods can combine the two and put it in the right place?

Agreed. Also a typo re the 50-20 which should have been 50-200.
thx

I have been really pleased with my 50-200- it seems to my eye to produce rather sharp images. From what I recall, the non "APO" version of the sigma hasn't always performed all that well. the Pentax is also signifcantly smaller than the sigma.

everywhere i read it seems people are very pleased w/ the 50-200mm but on Photozone they make it out like the lens is always soft ... i guess they've got really bad samples?
