Are you sure it isn't 1:1? How do you know it is 1:2; is it possible that there was a mistake in the listing?

Cause if you ask me, it looks a lot like this lens:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamron-SP-90mm-2-8-Macro-/151086425542?pt=Camera_Len...item232d73e5c6
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamron-SP-272E-90-mm-F-2-8-AF-Di-Lens-For-Nikon-/181...item2a2f119b24

Canon seems to have AF/MF switch. Nikon and Pentax don't seem to..

Reviews here on PF don't seem to have it...
All I can find is the MF SP https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/tamron-sp-mf-90mm-f2-8-macro-1-1-72b.html
And the newer AF SP Di https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/tamron-sp-af-90mm-f2-8-di-macro.html

Variations of Tamron 90mm Macro lenses

Looking at the focus ring, you have the one that is about 2 generations behind the current (72E 1996). I used to have the one preceding the current one (172E 1999):

Accordingly, yours should be 1:1 macro like mine was.

I looked at the other pictures and you are right, they likely got the 1:2 wrong

Any ideas on how good of a lens it is?

Thanks so far

Randy

Was it a great lens?
How much did you sell it for?

Thanks

I'll wildly guess that they are the same optics, the 72E, 172E, and 272E.

Tamron SP 90 2.8 AF 72E or 172E - Photo.net Nikon Forum

If so, it should be good at F2.8, quite good at F4, and fantastically good at anything higher. I sold mine for $300 or so, give or take $20.. it's been almost a year and a half. Was a bad choice, I bought a Sigma 50 F2.8 and it is not as good - plus shorter so less telephoto options.

Unfortunately I don't have any good F2.8 shots right now, so here are some others from my 172E...

F9

F5.6

F4

These were shot back when I was new to photography and wasn't so good at focusing/picking settings (so check through the whole image to find the part that was in focus). Regardless, the lens was very sharp in the center. As for corners/edges, it's kinda hard to shoot stuff that are in focus towards the corners and edges, but as a macro goes - it's bound to be good.

At F2.8, there is quite a bit of CA (which I think the DA100 does much better in), but stopped down it's pretty much comparable. It's pretty noisy though - especially if you don't have the focus limiter on.

Wait - I do have a F2.8 image, but ISO 800 so a bit muddied. The focus is right on his face:
