what was the cause for pentax lens price hike?

Greed and a very flawed business plan: if we force all retailers to charge equally much more for the same old products and same old 1 year warranty maybe they'll want to carrry Pentax stock and push our products.

Maybe the lower dollar rate plays a factor too.
Here in Europe the prices are at least 20% higher, the VAT alone won't justify the difference.

So you just have to pay what we do, maybe there was no hike...

The cause might be prior mismanagement. During the process of selling to Ricoh someone may have realized the lenses were selling for too little for whatever their business plan was.

Regardless, Pentax USA's poor excuses for MAP hurt their reputation. The claim was that this would get more retailers to sell Pentax lenses. What percentage of USA sales do B&H and Adorama handle? Am I wrong thinking that those 2 do the majority of USA sales so MAP did increased their margin on fewer sales, so maybe less profit?

Hopefully I'm wrong and MAP will have Pentax in many stores for this holiday season, so at least something good comes from it.

That flawed business plan seems to have worked out OK for Nikon over the years, but, ehh, what do they know?
