Revuenon Tomioka 55mm f/1.2: How does it compare?

Hi,

I found a Revuenon Tomioka 55mm f/1.2 at a ridiculously good price a few days ago. I can't show of any shots from the wild yet because I've been using it on my Super A but I did a few testshots on my K-5.
As far as I know it's built by Tomioka for Revue, it's not the Yashinon DS-M version but it should be quite good. It has a slight yellow tint that I will try to get rid of with UV, otherwise it's flawless.
I have hardly ever used a fast 50 on digital so haven't much of a clue how it would compare to other 50s. I have the DA*55 on my wishlist and I'd like to know how this one might compare.

If nothing else maybe someone who's considering a Tomioka will find this useful.

Here a few testshots at f/1.2, f/1.4, f/1.7, f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6 and f/8:

And the same scene with my DA40 at 2.8, the light is different though:

regards
Jan

Cool lens (and sweet knives!)
I think there is some more info about it over here:

It is a fantastic lens, wide open and stopped down. The revuenon, cosina and yashinon etc should all be the same optics, the porst is different and the M42 Tomiokas have a cut glass element which give slightly diff bokeh (and they are $1k)

I am quite sure the DA*55 1.4 would beat it in all respects (except f1.2) being a modern lens, but I do regret selling my Revuenon 55 1.2 (except that it allowed me to buy the 31...)

Check out the f1.2 club tons of posts with these lens variants there

Mine is one of the M42-Tomiokas, it has the cut rear element and it says Tomioka on the barrel, here's more info and pictures:
REVUENON TOMIOKA
Now, where do I get my $1k? (I paid 25€/$33)

Holy mother of F**K! Are people actually paying such prices?
Mine isn't quite mint, it has a slight yellow tint (I'll give it a UV-treatment) and the edge of the rear element is slightly chipped (no Impact on IQ on APS-C, maybe on film?).
Here's one in the same condition as mine:

It's actually quite possible, but you'd have to come to Germany and search the collection on your own, here's more on the source of this treasure (and many more).

It's from the estate of an old collector/hoarder, he was a member of an astronomy club and one of the other members (who knows all about telescopes and nothing about cameras/lenses) is selling a house full of stuff for the heirs (who don't seem to give a f**k). He's trying his luck at a local collectors fair and I've offered to help him with selling online after that. Some of the heap is listed on the clubs website and people can come by and search for themselves every once in a while.

I'm afraid that the best deals are taken (a mint Zeiss 75mm f/1.5 got sold for 30€/$40 the day before I got there!) but there's still a lot left (i.e. a lot of russian and german Pentacon-Six lenses).
If any of my fellow pentaxians here can get to northern Germany, I'm happy to share my secret (PM me) and I will direct you to the online sale, when it happens (there will be full res photos and detailed descriptions).

regards
Jan

Maybe...Maybe not. GoKevin is known for his top of market pricing and also for the excellence of his goods. He sells primarily to collectors. I remember a few years ago when I had a Ricoh Singlex TLS in mint condition for just under $300 USD, body only. I got mine for $25 USD in very good condition. The price new was about $99 USD body only.
