DA* 200 First Impressions

I received this beast today. Even tho I knew it weighed nearly 2#, holding it brings it home.
I put it on the '20' and ran off a few in-house and thru-the-window shots. What a piece of glass!

The SDM is quieter than I expected and IQ and construction is better than good as is typical of all DAs.

Curious point: the manual included was only for the older DAs. Because I had bought from a new (to me) vendor (The Imaging World) I called PTX to ask about it. The rep was at a loss and we could only conclude the mfg. ops were running ahead of printing. The manual is not yet on-line either.

Later I'll try it with the Tamron 1.4 TC and see what happens.

Anyway, I think I'll keep it...........

I have not put any pix up to the Forum but will learn the routine and begin to do so. The lens is remarkable.

Also, I tried it with the Tamron TC. At first I thought it wasn't working but then realized the SDM was so quiet that the wind outside caused my mistake. IQ of the few pix I took was very good though AF was not as certain as without it. This was in 'green' mode so other
modes may yield different results.

Overall I'd say the lens will work with TCs if you have the right one. I'll try the Kenko 1.5 later..........

Yes. It worked reasonably well, about the same as on my Tamron 18-250. In 'green' mode the '20' started right up as if there was no difference. The usual limitations for TCs (light, contrast) still are there, of course........
