Wide zoom - which one?

This was probably asked here before - but anyway...
I am considering a wide zoom lens. Pentax are too expensive for me.

Narrowed my search to either Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 or Tamron 10-25mm f3.5-4.5.

Which will give better results? What about built quality? Did anybody try both? Any sample images to compare?
Any other ideas?

There are a couple of reviews and comparisons that might help you

Also check out the samples gallery and you can search Flickr for sample photo's from lenses that you are interested in...

I went for the DA 12-24mm

I have the Tamron 10-24 and I am quite happy with it. I have also read good things about the Sigma, and about the Pentax 12-24.

I've shot both the Tammy 10-24 and own the Pentax 12-24. My daughter owns the Sigma 10-20 for her Canon. These are all fine lenses but I'd rate them Pentax, Sigma, Tamron in order of all round preference. I particularly like the fact that the Pentax is a fixed aperture lens. Is the image quality vastly different? I don't think so. Do read the reviews referenced above.

I have only used the Tammy 10-24 and currently own it. The construction, while plastic, is actually quite solid. I was surprised how compact and lightweight it felt-- I believe it's lighter than the Sigma 10-20. In the USA, the Tammy is usually cheaper than the Sigma, at least on the used market, so that is a plus in its favor. Another great thing about the 10-24 is the extra 4mm on the long end-- it makes this zoom lens a bit more of a walkaround lens, so I don't have to change lenses as often. The downside to the Tammy is that it generally is not as sharp as the Sigma 10-20. You need to stop the Tammy down to f/8-11, to have much better across the frame sharpness. That said, I've shot the 10-24 wide-open indoors and was satisfied by the results-- didn't blow me away of course, but it fulfilled my needs (I'm an amateur, so I don't use this lens for professional paid work).

You've already indicated that the Pentax is too expensive, but the 12-24 is generally the best reviewed and sharpest wide-open zoom out of these three choices. Still, the ability to zoom out to 10mm is really quite nice.

Good luck with your decision!

I still prefer my DA15ltd. Not a zoom, not the sharpest, but I always have it with me because it isn't the size of a boat anchor. Besides, flare resistance alone makes it worth it.
