well, I'm certainly entertaining all options wrt macro lenses at this point. I am underwhelmed by the current Pentax 100mm macro build quality (a lens shouldn't klunk around imho). I'm waiting for the 35mm ltd macro and will snap that up, but it would be nice to have a longer macro as well as that is one of my "things" that I shoot. So I've been looking at Voigtlander and Zeiss. I actually wasn't that thrilled with the Zeiss, although it was on a Nikon body. Haven't seen the Voigtlander in person and they are hard to find. Maybe I should consider a Sigma macro?

The 12-24, DA*16-50, DA*50-135 are all rumoured to be Tokinas. The DA70 LTD is a Cosina Voigtlander. The 18-55 and 50-200 kit lenses are designed by Samsung Schneider Kreuznach. My Voigtlander SL 180 is easily the equal if not better than most Pentax Limiteds. There is no reason not to buy third party if the lens is good. For example Pentax does not offer a fast 80-200 anymore, but Sigma and Tamron will, shortly. A lot of people here have the Bigma, that its a Sigma doesn't deter them.

However, lens defect rates begin to play a part here. Pentax has a 92% success rate. Sigma is in the low 70s.

The lens formulae were done in cooperation between the two firms. The Pentax lenses have SMC (it DOES make a difference) and the build quality, comparing some reviews between the Pentax and Tokina versions for Canon and Nikon, seems a bit better.

Where in the world did you conjure up such information because I have NEVER come across this bit of info.
How do you cook up information with regards to defect rates???
