Replacement Hood for Adaptall SP 80-200mm f/2.8 (30A)

Just got this huge lens, but it comes with no original hood (and no original tripod mount, but I understand I could use something from Canon for that). Finding the original metal hood seems to be even harder, so for now I'm thinking about getting a replacement hood. Is there something similar that can fit into the original hood bayonet, preferably with the capability to be reversed, or should I just settle for the universal, filter ring mounted, three stage rubber hood? Thanks!

I'd get a 77mm to 82mm step up ring and then a cheap metal screw-on hood like this:

A direct 77mm hood would work too, of course:

Might vignette on a full-frame. The original hood is huge and much bigger in diameter than the lens itself...

I'm thinking about modifying Tamron/Sigma/Canikon 70-200/2.8 hood. They have similar 77mm thread, so who knows..

I can state from experience that the 30A benefits from a hood when incident light sources are within about +/- 60 degree of the lens axis.

But let's face it, a hood is nothing more than a shade - a sun umbrella - and any shade is good shade.

In the mean time, wrap a piece of black paper around the lens and secure it with tape or a rubber band. Move it around until it doesn't vignette at the selected FL and enjoy a free hood that actually works at ALL FL's.

The aftermarket tripod bases are quite suitable - 77mm I believe, but measure yours anyway. If it's a close fit a few wraps with electrician's tape to take up the slack works fine ith any of 'em.
