Pentax A 35-105mm f/3.5

I may have a chance to buy this lens. The zoom range appeals to me and I've seen a few photos from it. The local seller says its in excellent condition.

I'd like to ask if anyone has had any experience with the A 35-105mm f/3.5. TIA

Hi Andrew

This is an excellent, probably one of the best, Pentax zoom lenses. I had it for a while and the only reason I sold it is because of its weight, a little too heavy for a walk around lens. It is sharp wide open and quite easy to manual focus. I used to have FA20-35/4, A35-105/3.5 and A70-210/4 as my zoom kit.

Here is a quote from Stan's Pentax Photography (Brief Comments)

QuoteQuote:
Bill Kane - . . . my favorite by far. . . I can't tell the differance between pictures I have taken with this or my 50mm prime.
So my recommendation is, if you don't mind the weight and don't mind manual focusing, then go for it!

cheers
Kenny

Yes

I have this lens and I love it. Even the macro is very usable. A great lens.

I had it and found it mechanically not so good.
One thing you should note is that it does not transmit the focal length and therefore you cannot use shake reduction in the automatic way.

Optically the lens is an absolute gem.

The lens is heavy by today's plasticy built lens. The lens has a great design arrangment of lens components. The color rendition is spot on and clean. It is sharp wide open and and the constant 3.5 ap is quite usefull.

The macro mode is actually quite usable at (I think) 1:3.

I found this lens to be solidly and professionally built, structurally sound, easy to operate
and capable of a very high level of output on a digital body. The focus ring in well dampened and dependable.

I have enjoyed mine quite a bit. Only reason I am selling it (along with other manual focus lenses) is to move toward autofocus. Otherwise, I'd keep it.

Hi.I purchased this lens couple of days ago and have a question:
when lens is in "A" position, on display of K10 (and PZ-20) the last stop of aperture is f/4, not f/3.5. And when it isn't in "A" position and I manually turn the aperture rind to the last stop, photo's exif shows, that is was made with f/4.
What could be the reason of such problem?

It must be a calibration issue. The fStop is a mechanical function on an A lens and possibly there is a small mechanical error where the camera reads it as a 4 instead of a 3.5

On my K10D my copy of the lens reads 3.5.

I don't think this will hurt you any. This is a beautiful lens. Enjoy it.

The reasone of my problem was the mount. It wasnt the original one, but from other lens.
I used aluminium foil to cover the 7-th plastic pin on the mount and now everything is ok
