Sudgestions on Future Pentax ZOOMS?

Any thoughts as to what Pentax may bring to the table regarding longer DA* Zooms.
I know the DA* 60-250 F4 but what I'm talking about is somthing closer to 400mm or more.
I don't know, maybe somthing like a
DA* 100-400mm F4-5.6
DA* 200-600mm F4-5.6 or (F5.6 constant)
By having somthing like theses two zooms you can match up your lens line without having to much overlap:-

Option 1
DA* 16-50mm F2.8
DA* 50-135mm F2.8
DA* 100-400mm F4-5.6

Option 2
DA* 16-50mm F2.8
DA* 60-250mm F4
DA* 200-600mm F4-5.6 (F5.6 constant)

Anyway, just some thoughts and would like to know your opinions on what you would like to see regarding the longer ZOOM lens lineup.

Of course I would like to see the DA*400/500/600mm F4's as well, although they'll be to expensive
for me

Cheers

Del

I believe the options should be as follows

100-400 F4, and not F4-F5.6 or F5.6 because there is no advantage over existing zooms from sigma if the speed is limited to F5.6 at 400mm. This is NOT fast enough at this focal length! The lens should also come with a matched 1.4/5 X TC to get to 600mm F5.6.

200-600mm should be F4 and be the more seriois pro zoom. Again a matched 1.4/5x TC to get to 900mm F5.6. The TC should again come with the lens.

Both lenses should be capable of focusing to 10 feet without either corrective front lenses (AKA the 140-600mm SMC zoom) or by requiring extension tubes

As owner of a 16-50 F2.8 and 50-135 F2.8 I would like to see a:
135-400 F2.8-F4 and a set matching TC (1.5 and 2.0)....

I agree with Harry, the 135-400mm would be such a sweet addition.

HOLY C#@P

Some very nice and VERY expensive lens there, I was concerned that the hypertheticle 200-600 F5.6 would be outta my price range.
You guys obviously have way deeper pockets than I do
I may have to sell the kids and take an extra job.

Though the built in TC sounds like a novel idea, I hope Hoya impliment this into future
telephoto lenses.

Cheers

Keep'em commin

Pentax is doing pretty well with the roadmap in terms of zooms. In my opinion, what we really need is either:

1) DA* 120mm f/2.8 Macro Limited SDM

or

2) DA* 135mm f/2.8 Macro Limited SDM

In other words, I really want a mid-range telephoto macro prime with a f/2.8 aperture.

Sure, the 50-135mm is nice, but it ain't no macro. The older D-FA 100mm is a great piece of glass, but it lacks the build of a DA Limited ... and it's MUCH too noisy when focusing.

Most of the lenses you guys are suggesting will never see the light of day because Pentax would never sell enough to recover R&D costs. But it sure is nice to dream!

And while we're dreaming, the previously suggested 135-400mm f/2.8-4 would be a great addition to the line-up. And if they kept it just DA (not DA*) they would probably sell quite a few. However, this doesn't seem like Pentax's style, I would expect a constant f/4 from them.

They don't do lenses that are both * and ltd. They are different approaches. * is high quality with as little compromises as possible and best possible optical quality and speed, SDM and often weather sealing. Ltd's are the best possible compromise between optics/speed v.s. size with highest build quality, and no SDM or weather sealing. So I suggest you change "or" into "and":

1) DA 120mm f/2.8 Macro Limited (which fit in my pocket)

and

2) DA* 135mm f/1.8 SDM (weather sealed)

But I wouldn't mind that 135-400 mm zoom, but make it constant aperture f/3.5.

A 10-1000 f/1 lens with SDM, IF and weather sealing. Seriously, you guys; there's a big enough offer from third-party manufacturers.

..now if they only made the lenses in Pentax mount.

to match the amazing Nikkor 17-35mm
