When will we see a new DA 28mm?

After the DA 35mm/2.4 (which is excellent, I love this lens) and the DA 50mm/1.8, I expect that Pentax will continue down the same road: re-releasing film-style focal lengths in budget-friendly plastic bodies, styled like the FA and DA Limiteds.

The next obvious choice is a DA 28mm/2.8, or dare to dream DA 28mm/2.

This focal length gives a perfect 42mm field of view (full frame equivalent on APS-C) which I love on the digital bodies.

Much as I am tempted by a Sigma 30mm/1.4, I would jump all over a new Pentax DA 28 instead.

So come on Pentax/Ricoh! Get busy :-)

It would be interesting, I do like the Sigma 28mm f1.8 macro. That has a great field of view, and performs very well indoors in low light. But with an upcoming 18-35, there might not be any demand for another prime smack in the middle of that range.

Although there could be demand for such a prime in the 20-30mm range for people who (1) can't afford to spend $799 on a new lens, and (2) don't want such a huge and heavy zoom lens. I could see Pentax offering a repackaged F 28mm, or FA 28mm, in the DA-L prime style. Or better yet, perhaps an updated Pentax-A 24mm f/2.8. That would sell like hotcakes if priced right!

+1

I would like to see a budget 28mm but even more an affordable 24mm (Samyang 24mm is still on the high side for me).

+1 for a new 28mm, if I don't end up with a FA28 in the interim.

I have the F 28/2, 8, and when he appeared DA24 / 2 or f2, 8, 4mm to apsc means a lot in width and not a moment would not think of buying, of course the price has to be a reconciliation with 35/2, 4 & 50 / 1.8, that would be great, but I still hope Zuma DA * 16-80/2,8- 4 (with f2, 8 to 20mm else on f4, not a constant aperture for possible dimensions similar DA17-70 / 4)

+1 !!

Maybe a 24mm 2.8 with some kind of weather sealing? Or maybe a bit faster one.. 24mm f/2.5. Either one would be nice!

Agreed. Frankly both are on my wish list. Especially if (like the DA 35) they also work perfectly on my MZ-S at full frame

2/24 would make for a better angle of view - closer to 35 mm in FF land.

I am about to give up waiting for Pentax lenses and TCs. A couple features make me stick to Pentax, but I am about to leave. The best lenses in Pentax land are only availbale used and I can not identifiy any clear planning for updates. We are offered old FF designs along with APS-C designs and no line up is complete at all.

Since you talk about TC, I'm guessing your concern is lack of options at our Tele end? Pentax DA lineup is almost complete, actually on the shorter end I believe it is more complete than any other mount (barring our lack of Tokina 11-16 equivalent). DA15, DA21, and DA 70 have no size / FL equivalents in any other mount except mirrorless.

I think Pentax users have the illusion that Pentax have to perform and compete with Canonikon. If we look at the innovative lens designs Pentax is coming up with, certainly this is not what they are trying to do. If this is what you'd like to get it is indeed better to switch. Each second spent waiting could be spent shooting!

An APS-C optimized DA 28 would raise the bar even higher. If it could be faster than 2.8 and be a true limited in size, I will have no complaints

For people wanting a DA 24, why cant you just crop the DA 21? Imho it's close enough.

Given the Pentax penchant for `odd' focal lengths - how about a DA 27 ltd ?

There's definitely room for at least one more lens between 21 and 31 mm in the Pentax lineup. Maybe a DFA 24/1.8 ltd and a tiny DA 28/2.8 ltd? Yeah, sounds about right.
