Besides nature and sports, what else do you use this focal length be used for?
Just trying to justify getting a DA *60-250 F4

Any opinions welcomed

Going to a free outdoor concert.

Going to a parade.

Going to any random thing where there may be a crowd/security that prevents you from getting closer.

Taking sneaky pictures of your unaware beloved ones from a distance.

Love my 60-250 when I'm traveling in the car. Lots of times a good shot (farm, old barn, whatever) is just too far away for anything short but you cannot just walk onto private property to get the shot. At least I don't. The 60-250 is perfect for just pulling off on the roadside and shooting.

Long lenses are also great for wildlife shots (stuff like birds or deer that get spooked when you get too close).

Everytime you really want isolate the subject, from pseudo macro to portraits. Long teles really brings the focus to a things in focus and brings out details, whereas wider lenses often makes you think more about the overview of the scene.

Portraits. Shallow DOF and flattening, generally more flattering rendering , of features, provided you have the space, but easily outdoors

Well believe it or not, in addition to many of the comments above, long teles can be used for landscape work. If you have to shoot a landscape from a place you can't get into, a tele can compensate for this lack of access.

Hi Randy,
Well, I had a long post ready to go, listing air shows, birds in flight, classic car cruises, etc. Lots of examples of long telephoto use.
But, before I hit 'Submit Reply' I decided to check and see what lenses you already have.
Whoa, wait a minute!!!!
You already have the DA 50-135 f/2.8 and a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 with lots of letters after it, which probably means it's very good.
To my way of thinking, you're considering shelling out $1,200 to $1,400 USD for 50mm more reach?
Uh uh. Nope, nada, no way, nyet.
For that many buckeroos, getch'a one of the bazookas, like a 300 f/4.0 or 100-400mm rocket launcher. Anytime the little tag has a comma in it, like $1,XXX, you should get more than a 25% increase (over 200mm).
Unless of course, you plan to replace the Sigma, in which case, disregard this entire post.

Wow you just opened my eyes wide about the purchase!
Would giving up the Sigma 2.8 and going to the pentax f4 be a step in reverse?
F4 to slow for indoor sports?
