ASAHI Pentax 500 4.5 lens

Hi there,

I just bought a ASAHI Pentax 500 4.5 lens second hand. The only problem is that it has a Minolta fitting on.
What are my options converting it to a Pentax K -mount?

It is the non SMC version ASAHI Pentax 500 4.5 lens

Kind regards

Arrie (from South Africa)

Do you mean it has an M42-to-Minolta adapter on it? That should just unscrew, then you can just use an M42-to-K adapter.

Actually this is the tricky bit... the current Minolta adaptor has a funny lock and twist mounting. In front of this is a separate screw mount fitting which actually ties the adapter against the lens body. That screw fitting is a 67mm thread to the lens body. The back of it is where the funny lock comes in of the adapter. Difficult to describe. Make sense?

How about posting a photo? Even if someone can figure this out without seeing it, my curiosity is piqued.

I think you better post some pictures. It will make it MUCH easier for us to help.

EDIT: And that's what happens when I open 12 browser tabs and don't refresh the thread before posting.

Hi, OK , had a good look at the lens and the Minolta fitting actually screws onto the lens (M42). BUT, it seems very tight, not sure if it actually glued or not into the M42 thread.

Any suggestions, as this will solve my problem with a M42 to K mount adaptor. Thanks.

Here is a link to the manual for the K500/4.5. Note the camera mount on the lens is removable and that is where you attach a 52mm filter.

http://c758710.r10.cf2.rackcdn.com/files/support/manual/276_1314744958-1765686806_manual.pdf

These K Series lenses with removable mounts are notorious for being missing or modified for different camera systems.

Hopefully your Minolta mount can easily be removed and the Pentax K-Mount is underneath.

Phil.

Thanks guys, I managed to remove the Minolta adaptor from the M42 screw mount. It has some glue on, can one believe it. Will obtain a M42 to K mount adaptor now~

Thanks for the link on the manual!

Cheers

Congrat's. Nice little play thing you have acquired. Can deliver very sharp images if you can hit focus, but CA can be a problem in certain lighting.

Glad you have been able to sort out the M42 mounting. It seems these lens just keep going. If you have the non-SMC version it would seem to be a pre-1971 Takumar lens. That is over 42yrs old. But most seem to have been modified a bit.

I have an smc-Takumar model (circa 1971-1975) which has been modified with a K-mount, but the hack reduced the mounting distance, so infinity focus is a bit off, and I have to use it with an extension tube.

Enjoy working the biceps at 3.5kg..!

Cheers!
