Sigma 100-300/f4 on the way!

Got my e-mail confirmation today, Adorama has shipped this lens to me. Should arrive in a couple days. I know this lens has been hard to find, just letting anybody else know that was interested.

How fast is autofocus without Sigma's HSM? if you eq. compare it to Pentax DA* 16-50mm/f2.8 ED AL IF SDM?

Thank you for the heads up, I went ahead and ordered one. I wanted this, couldn't fine one and then thought I'll get the upcoming DA* 300 F4, but just couldn't wait any longer. Thank you again.

It's due to arrive Thursday, might be a few days before I get much chance to use it. Made me nervous, as the order remained in the "processing" stage for several days. When I get it though I'll see how the autofocus compares to the DA 16-50 (which seems pretty fast.) I know Sigma makes their matched TC for it, but for now I'm going to try my Tamron 1.4 TC on it too.
I didn't feel like waiting either- the only other lens I had in mind is the upcoming Pentax 60-250/f4, which doesn't exist yet. I'm hoping this satisfies my LBA for a while!

Ok, thanks a lot. Pentax 60-250/f4 is coming too late (I need telezoom end of April) and I'am not so sure Pentax 55-300mm/F4-5.8ED performance, because it not those star series lenses....Sigma's telezoom has got very good reviews at least (Welcome to Photozone!). The only questionmark is AF speed without HSM...

Well I don't have a SDM lens to compare it against, but it is not unduly slow. Excellent lens. I think the IQ is even better then the 70-200 f2.8.

UPS says my 100-300 f/4 arrives tomorrow, but I'm a bit worried now. I have read most of the comments about this lens not having HSM, but the dealer I ordered it from said that they were waiting for a 'new' batch from Sigma that DID have HSM. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Well that's one update the Sigma corp. is not going to keep as a secret. As they haven't said anything I doubt the newer shipments are HSM. Who is the dealer?...I ordered it from Adorma having read this post. Didn't find anyone else having it.

Glad to hear that the lens if finally available!

Great built, terrific colors, very hand holdable, beautiful piece of glass! I have one, non HSM (and Sigma rep said not available in HSM and no plans yet), but AF is very fast imo!

Regards,
D

P.S. Sigma EX 1.4x TC came in today, unfortunately would not be able to get out until Sunday to give it a try

The lens came a day earlier than predicted. Only had a few minutes before dark but AF speed seems decent. Compared to anything else I have (DA50-135 is the next biggest), this is one BIG honkin' lens!
P.S. Correct, no HSM.

Congratulations, I was hoping I'll get an e-mail saying it's being shipped, but no luck. I am calling them tomorrow, hope they got more than the one

I ask this HSM question for our country (Finland) importer Foka Oy. And they answer that HSM for Pentax (and Sony) are always also APO II lenses, Sigma doesn't upgrade HSM feature for old ones. She give me two example zooms both new ones: APO 50-150mm F2.8 II EX DC HSM for Pentax and Sony and APO 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM for Pentax and Sony. Finnish importer didn't know when 100-300mm/F:4 will be upgraded for the HSM -feature.

The 150-500 and 50 f/1.4 sigma's will be released in HSM for pentax mount and some more. Check this out for all the upcoming HSM models for Pentax

Yippeee, I got the shipping e-mail today. When I called yeterday they said they don't have it...must be an employee who just looked at the online inventory.

This LBA is making me in to a pathetic man, over joyed by a shipping e-mail...oh well!

I just picked up my 100-300mm/F:4 today, I have possibility to test autofocus speed beforehand and it is fast and accurate. Lens is quit heavy so my old Velbon has to go....has anyone experience of Berlebach tripods (Stative von Berlebach - Eine echte Alternative! Holzstative aus Eschenholz), looks quit well made and tripods material is intresting... I'am not intrested in Gitzo's...too common and overpriced...
