Here's a good page comparing the Ultron with the DA40 and FA43: Voigtl

(I gotta say, this thread is having the opposite effect I'd thought it would: rather than helping express my general satisfaction with what I've got, it's stoking my desire to get that Ultron!)

LOL. I saw the Ultron is still on your wish list too ...
Great link, thanks!

I have both the DA40 and the Ultron. The Ultron is quite sharp at f2 and sharper than the DA40 at other apertures. However, the DA40 always auto-focus accurately and give very decent photos. So I will be keeping both for now.

Just remember that LBA is not over as long as you have a list, and when you acquire one on the list another has a habit of appearing.

Personally I am very happy with my current stable which includes eight primes from 15 to 200. I needed a versatile weather resistant zoom ( just in case of bad weather and I could not find an umbrella to shoot under) and so got the 18-135. Then although I don't do a lot of telephoto I had to have the 55-300 for a light alternative to the DA*200 for hiking. Of course a couple years ago I came upon a sigma Autofocus 75-200 F 3.8 which was only $100, then there were.....

The moral of this story is you can never be cured of LBA, you might go into remission for a while, but sooner or later......back it comes.

haha. The downside of hanging around these forums.

Some good info here, they sometimes also have used Voigt for sale, some times cheaper than ebay, and the guys there are fantastic. I bought my 40mm brand new there.

I think I'm done buying manual lenses. Need to get more auto lenses b/c I can see what the coatings do for IQ.

Would like to get 18-135 WR and DA*60-250, and Sigma 18-35 1.8.

Nah, that one's never really moved me, not like the 31 (legendary) and 43 (a great focal length for me) have.
thats why there are so many lenses. I would give up my FA 31 to buy a FA 77 if my 77 went missing. Different lenses for different people

I have an FA43 and a DA40. So, considering an Ultron 40 is stupid. It's a specialized kind of LBA that cannot be defended in any way. The only bright spot is that there are only a limited number of 40mm lenses suitable for Pentax (no pun intended).

Yeah, I've bought all my Voigtlanders from CameraQuest. Can't understand why people don't use them (over eBay, etc.), unless they just don't know. They're tops, imo.

I would agree that if I have a FA43, a DA40, and an Ultron 40; I would probably not keep all three. I would keep the FA43 if I like it the best and let the other 2 go. If I like the Ultron better than the FA43, I will keep the Ultron with the DA40 and let the FA43 go. With that in mind, if I have a chance I would like to try the FA43 in the future.

The end of my LBA
I'm a happy bunny on the lens front, it's my CBA I need to exercise, with a couple of digital Pentax FF bodies.

Yes, I can follow that thought. But there are often historical and practical reasons to have other combinations. I started with an FA43 as main prime lens on my K5 and got the DA40 as small and lightweight lens for my outdoor camera (K-50).
I think the real danger of the Ultron 40 is that you want more Voigt's, like OP, because they are beautifully made lenses.

with that list, it looks like you've hit a plateau only. There are lots more to want and you admit you still want more - LBA is a harsh mistress and you still have it.

I have spent over 8k on lenses over the last 2.5 years but I truly believe I do not have LBA.
I have covered 10mm to 500mm in six lenses but have none of the classic Pentax primes, but that may be because I am waiting to see the next high end Pentax camera..

I'm definitely done with LBA, and have been for some time. The ONLY thing I'd still like to have, and I don't think it exists, is a 8 or 10mm aspherical prime. Don't really care how fast it is. If the Sigma 8- 16 zoom took screw-on filters I'd already have one. I have a 10mm FE, and may resort to de-fisheyeing it sometime with software just to see how well that would work. I suspect not too well. Other than that, I'm completely satisfied with what I've got.
