I have my 40mm XS (with rounded aperture blades), where are my 15mm XS and 70mm XS?
Sorry, the 40mm XS is a pricing mistake. And after exploring all venues, I believe the best they can do is free shipping on the limited's

Just realized that the 15 Ltd's hood is petal shape when pulled out. Seeing the silver version in that big poster of all the new HD lenses makes me desperately want it more. Am totally getting it....

Just sold my 15 and 21 and replaced them with a Sigma DP1M. No coating will ever give those two the resolution of the DPM series. I have kept all my A*, F* and FA lenses. Not expecting a FF but they are just better lenses for me than the DAs. I have all the primes I will ever need or want. A quality zoom w/o SDM would be next on my list.

I own only the 40 Limited and its one of my favorite lenses but I won't remplace it for several reasons. First the look does not matter so much for me so black/silver; red/green . Secondly, I am familiar with it so I prefer continuing. My knowledge is limited by my skills...not the lens . Lastly I prefer saving money for an other lens...a wide angle is coming

My opinion would have been different if the lens had an aperture ring + full frame compatible as I also use a ME Super...

Replace my DA15? Why on earth would I do that?

Will I buy the DA or the HD version the 21? Whichever is available for less the day I decide I need it

It will take more than one thorough review to convince me there is any substantial difference between the two. And if I'm wrong it can only mean the HD coating is pure magic, which can't be a bad thing!

Rounded blades might make a difference on the 70, though.

And the updates are overall a good thing. Making the lenses in silver is a good move, too.

That raises an interesting point, which may have been covered elsewhere in the discussions on the HD-coated lenses. If the DA Limited primes benefit from the better coating, how much more would the DA* zooms benefit, having a greater number of optical surfaces? Even the DA* primes would benefit as much as the Limiteds.

On the thread topic, though, I only have the SMC DA15/4 of the DA Limiteds, and I don't plan to buy any more. The flare resistance and colour rendition of that lens is well-known and documented here, so I can't see any significant advantage in changing it for the new one.
An important question is also whether they really treat all lens surfaces with the new HD coating. For comparison: Other lenses that are marketed as using new, improved coatings like Nikon's 85/1.4 with "Nano Crystal Coating" use it only on one single element, not on all. AFAIK the same is true for the Pentax DA*55/1.4 with its "Aero Bright" coating, which is also only used on one element (you can even spot the one element with a differently colored coating when you look at the lens surfaces under a light source).
So let's wait and see whether the new coating is only limited (no pun intended ) to single elements or whether the whole optical system gets the upgrade. In the first case I wouldn't expect wonders in improved performance...

Mine cost USD 60,
the difference between a K-01 kit with or without it.
That's about as cheap as you can get for a new AF APS-C prime.

Some strange pricing here in the UK, SRS Micro are listing the new red stripe DA35 macro Ltd at 639, as opposed to the old green stripe one at 369. Yet the new DA15 Ltd is listed at 589 as opposed to the old one at 579. Weird.

I got my SMC DA 35 ltd for 289,- new back in 2009! Right here in the Netherlands, where camera-gear prices normally are even higher then in the UK.

Does the new red stripe DA 35 ltd automatically fire 10mg pixy-dust-packets at the subject to automatically improve the interestingness of the photo? Or did they shift the manufacturing to red-dotted manufacturing plants in Germany?

I added a second system a few years back because I needed full frame, and I can objectively state that the grass on the other side may be equally green, but it's a hell of a lot more affordable. I haven't bought any Pentax gear since then, so I wasn't aware of the pricing. I did not realise things have gotten THAT bad now.

I wonder if the HD coating will make a noticeable difference ... 1...that can be seen in normal viewing (rather than pixel peeping) on an LCD monitor, or in prints up to A3, viewed from a sensible distance... and/or 2. that cannot be reproduced in post processing. It will be interesting to see the comparison reviews.

These new limiteds are interesting, but would it kill Pentax to put out a nice mid range zoom, a la the 17-70mm again? I love my 16-45mm and 60-250mm, but I can't find good quality zooms that straddle those focal lengths. The DA 18-55mm and 18-135 are pretty much all there are that's newer, and at best they're kit lenses. I don't want the DA* 16-50mm and 50-135mm, but something in between both. It would be nice to have a new, high quality walking around lens that bridged that gap.
