Palmor .... those images are beautiful indeed ... nice work.

I think i made a mistake in purchasing the Pentax FA J 75-300mm (although mine seems to be a decent copy compared to many others) ... the Tamron does produse some NICE images (my Tammy 90mm macro is crisp and clear).

get thee behind me, LBA.

I love my copy of the lens. I bought it used in marketplace and thanks to the seller who has kept it like new. I especially love the lens in the zoo

I do see purple fringe in couple of shots in high contrast areas but I like what I get with an inexpensive price and it works out great with occasional use of the lens for longer reach. The Macro 1:2 looks awesome from other posting on this thread. Now that I own both Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 Di Macro and Tamron 70-300 Di LD Macro, I am thinking of the new Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 Di II to make a trio Tamron zooms that cover from 17mm to 300mm, just a thought for the LBA minded. Now that Ben joins us for LBA, we are very much encouraged instead of self blaming for another lens purchase.

Warmest,
Hin

I have the 75-300 version. Little older, and macro only 1:4, but for the 130 I paid, Ii found it to be quite a little performer when asked of it.

That is very true Ben. At the time, I was shooting only in JPEG. I now only shoot in RAW+JPEG after I took a look at the difference that the K10D does in its RAW images. It was like night and day compared to the JPEG.

It is a wonderful little lens for the money. Just have to watch out for those high contrast photos though.

Ben - it's my favorite "budget" lens... ever. I passed my copy down to my son who's now a Fine Arts major with an emphasis on, what else... photography. I gave it to him when I picked up an F*300/4.5 last year. He's been using it shooting for the college yearbook and school newspaper and loves it.

When I recently told him that I was considering getting the DA*300/4 and letting him have the F*300, his only response was... "Why would I want to get rid of the Tamron?"

Here's a few shots from "our" collection

It used to just shoot birds on a K10d...

Now it covers campus events attached to a K100D...

One can only imagine the images that Ben will produce with this lens ...

Oh, and thanks for posting a link to your processing methods... very cool!

@Palmor:

Those shots were incredible, especially the 1st one -- think it is called a float? Such deep colors.

I am surprized you wouldn't try the Pentax 50-200mm. Not long enough for you or does it not have good reviews? I was considering that lens.
