Did you check photodo and other sites for reviews? If you are looking for user opinions then check dpreview.com forums where users usually posts quick reviews.

Don't see reviews on either of these two sites. Thanks for the headsup though for future inquiries...

on that site you should check the tamron equivalents for canikon which seem to have performed slightly better

Well, I wanted to list the photozone.de site instead of photodo :-)

They have small article about the Pentax version here and longer one about the Tamron version. You can also check Amazon.com for user reviews (though they are not going to be very scientific). Popular Photography has review with some numbers for the Tamron lens.

Slow but pretty sharp at f8. For the price and flexibility, no complaints.

Me too. Very happy with the results. Stays on the K10D 95% of the time. Then again, my only other lens is the FA 50mm f/1.4...

Hi beaumont

I've owned the Tamron version for nearly a year now and found it an invaluable all-rounder which produces sharp images. Like all superzooms there is inevitably some slight distortion at both ends which is very subjective, but nothing that a half-decent photo-editing software package can't deal with. I believe the Tamron comes with a 6-year warranty when purchased in the USA, which is perhaps something to consider over the Pentax model ?

Best regards
Richard

As always, thank you all for your experiences and feedback. Will be picking up either the Tamron or the Pentax later this week...

Just bought the Pentax 18-250 today and I was wondering about the manual focus ring...it does not turn smoothly at all. It "catches" at each focal length. Is this the way it is supposed to be or is there something that I am doing wrong??? Thanks in advance.

The 18-250mm does not feature quick-shift focus. If you want to focus manually you'll have to turn the switch on the camera to MF.

If you've already done this and the focus ring is still not smooth, then I would say you have a defective unit. Does it also turn with difficulty when it's off the camera?

Yes. I turned the switch on the camera to MF and it does not turn smooth at all. I just took it off the camera and it does the same thing. It sort of drags and catches and jerks when I turn it...

Crapper...my first foray into the world of Pentax.
