Teleconverters

Not sure whether this question fits in here but are there any decent teleconverters (1.4) out there with an AF fit?

I don't know. I use it on my F* 300 f/4.5 without problems. The AF is a bit louder with it, but I haven't noticed much degradation (if any) in AF performance. I suppose it would depend on the light though.

i was wondering because i have a tamron 2x($10) tthat does not with the kit lens, my only AF lens.. works fine with A lenses tho. i'm looking for a 1.4-5x. i was surprised with the 2x tamron as it seems to work well with my primes. i haven't liked the 2x before and only got this one from an auction no one out bid me on at the hi price of 5usd. i may give the kenko a shot

Tamron also has a 1.4x that people swear by. It's a little cheaper than the kenko. For me it was a toss-up between the two so I went with what was in stock at the time.

If you have the autofocus version of the Tammy 2x try using it in bright light. The instruction sheet that comes with it says it should only be used on lenses faster than F4 if you want to retain autofocus. Otherwise switch to manual focus. But I've found the autofocus will work with slower lenses in bright situations.

The Tamron 1.4x Pz-AF MC4 (4 element) t/c is excellent value for the price. That's the one Pentax users are universally happy with.

The Tamron 2x Pz-AF BBAR MC7 (coated, 7 element) t/c is the best bet if you want to go to 2x. It is also excellent value for the money.

I think the maximum aperture for AF in a SLR body with teleconverter is f5.6

The only exception to the rule is bigma (sigma 50-500 mm) where autofocus is possible at f6.3 because the lens sends "different signal" of f5.6 instead of true figure to the SLR body to allow AF.

Bhphoto sells it for 49 dollars.

Tamron 1.4X does compromise the image sharpness to a degree as most do. I left mine on the shelf ever since I had acquired this teleconverter.

It is a cheap stuff that you can try and see how it goes...
