Wide angle comparison (different brands)

Just took a few random pictures with wide angle lenses I am having - Shot at f2.8, f4 and f8 using five different lenses and two different subjects. Some interesting and some not so known lenses, so can you please give it a try & post your lens preferences from 1-5, 1 being the best lens you like and 5 the least. I will disclose lenses later.

Just give you subjective opinions, all lenses are respectively sharp as I have observed from my other shoots. Any variation would be my focusing error as all were focused manually hand held. It's an overcast day and a bit windy so a few minor variations in light.

On balance I think I prefer the images from #3. But did seem a little less sharp for the lantern. #2 not far behind in preference, does seem to expose a little darker. #1 down a little in contrast. Bokeh from #4 and #5 unpleasant in scene one at wider apertures.

I prefer number 2 and 3, better details and bokeh.

For the branches #5 looked quite dull but all the lenses looked quite sharp (at least at this magnification), in terms of bokeh I preferred #3.

What was quite surprising is the difference in magnification for lenses that are all supposed to be the same focal length

Lens

I would rank them as follows: 3, 2,1,4,5 - primarily from the shots of the branch. To my eyes, differences in the lantern shots are less significant.

#2 is my favourite at every aperture.

#4 is my least favourite, but there's not much in it.

A problem I feel is that #2 & 3 is shot closer to the branch than #1 & 4, making the background look smoother (greater separation from subject and background relation).

Subjectively, I like #2 the best.

Objectively, I think it's very difficult to compare these, because either the focal lengths or distances to subject are different. Also, the center of focus is different in some of the shots.

I've got to apologise, for some reason I thought these were all 28mm, but looking back at the initial thread I realised that they were a selection of wide angle lenses

Thank you all for participating, actually I just acquire #1 and was doing this for my personal interest as #1 enjoys pretty good reputation outside Pentax world and want to see how it compares. Here is last comparison at @f2, let me know what do you think before I disclose the lenses. Only applicable for lenses 1. 2, 3.

#1 has truly nasty bokeh, #3 is OK, #2 is the best again.

Right, I was disappointed with #1 especially wide open open. I purchased for f2 use, and I certainly don't find it as good as I heard from Nikon users - it's Nikkor 28mm/f2 AI. However, I find it pretty good at f8, better than my M28 2.8 and a friends M28 3.5 I tested against.

Overall, people liking #2 & #3, no surprise here, #2 is my fav lens, it's Sigma 30mm/f1.4 and #3 is legend here, FA31.

#4 M28/f2.8 first version and #5 Vivitar A28.

Ha ha, that's really interesting to me.

I've seen lots of shots from the Sigma 30/1.4 on other systems, and most people love it.

On Pentax, everyone is obsessed with first party lenses, so I haven't seen nearly as much talk about the Sigma.

I'm happy that I liked it better than the FA31. It might save me $600 some day.
