While Pentax is *probably* going to announce/post a K5 replacement, there is no firm word as of yet.
Even if the K5 replacement *does* come, if the camera is more "amateur" hour and not a true "Enthusiast" camera, there will be no need to invest in the 560.

So the 560 depends on what camera is about to come, and I guess most people feel the same way and are waiting for the other shoe to drop with the Ricoh color engineering bandwagon marching on.

If Ricoh screws up the K5 replacement, the thousand or so dollars between the Sigma 500 f/4.5 and DA560 will make up for the cost of a new D800 and cost of the Sigma.

So it's a cascading effect that will play out soon.
You nailed it there. I've been holding off on a couple Ltd's and a DA* for a year now. I'm not sure on Ricoh and would like to know which track this train is on before I dump 3k on lenses.

Anyway it just seems strange that no one on this forum has purchased one.
Are you interested in being the first? I'm sure it's a fantastic lens, and we'll all be eager to read your review.

For me, so much is riding on what camera is coming in the next few months.
Normally I am in the UK this time of year getting images and video that I use for the rest of the year. My "inventory" as it is.

This year I am waiting or have been waiting (and it's making me CRAZY too.)

If a new Pentax APS-C comes along ala the D7100, then I will pick up two, and get a late fall/early winter trip up and running to the UK or Europe.
Then sometime next year, probably pick up the DA560mm or Sigma and stay with Pentax as my main and only system.

If Ricoh messes up, then I will take the time until next spring to get a D800 kit up and running and move in that direction and move more resources to ramp up that capability - which will cost me a tremendous amount of money since EVERYTHING I use now is part of the Pentax system - film and digital.

I will always keep my Pentax gear, but I will stop making it my primary kit, and it will be relegated to a different status.

I found one that has an bargain price tag on it... Just a mere $4,800. The place also sells faucets. Should I be worried?

HA HA yes and a DA560 might be hard to "hide".

I don't know $4800 sounds a bit cheap compared to other prices, sounds a bit suss to me. (but that still more than some experts were predicting when this SuperTele was still a rumour).

The eventual price of $7K was a bit of a shock to many of us, even the 21,970 viewers that wouldn't have considered buying it at $4K.

If you wanted to test the waters on that site, further down the "Pentax page" is a 22565 (old K28/3.5 shift) listed for $44.99.

I also notice they sell....... Cymbals, Diaper Bags, Subwoofers AND Camera lenses. Sounds perfectly Legit.

I wanted a 400 mm Pentax F 5.6...and used to say something very much like a Canon 400mm L F 5.6 was needed....from Pentax.

The Canon 400 L F 5.6 was around $ 1500 CAD, when I last checked.

When the Pentax 560mm came out ...it was a beautiful lens and no doubt excellent optically. But I couldn't afford the 7 grand....any more than I could afford a 7 grand Canikon professional lens. Which is why I was hoping that Pentax would bring out a very good quality....400mm equivalent of the Canon 400 L.

So....I veered from my practice of buying only Pentax lenses and purchased a new Sigma 150-500 a few months ago. The price is a lot less than $ 7000 CAD and so far I'm very pleased with the Sigma.

Don't get me wrong though....I'm happy Pentax brought out the 560. There are some out there that can afford the 560's quality. But I think that Pentax still needs to bring out a 400mm or so lens for advanced amateurs....somewhere in the $ 1300-1500 CAD range. A WR F 5.6 would do fine.

My A-400 and 1.7 get me an semi-auto-focus 680... and I can carry it. Now, if I could just get one of those A 300 f4s to go with the TC, I would be so laughing..... 510mm, I could carry in my pocket. Sometimes what was, is better than what is. Oops, I just made up a lens that doesn't exist, I was thinking of the A 200 f4...., what's 100mm among friends?
Factually there is an A 300/4'

It is very. Much the same as the M300/4 so you made up nothing.

I also use the 1.7x with my K300/4 so yes I do know what a 510mm lens weighing 1.2 likes looks like, a M/A version would weigh much less too.

The A 200 f4 is 5 inches long and would fit in my coat pocket, I believe the 300f 4 would be a bit unwieldy carried that way.
Sorry for the confusion.

No need to apologize, but just think

ThenA300/4 weighs in at 850 grams, the 1.7x AF converter at 135 grams

So a 510/6.9 lens need only weigh 985 grams

That certainly is light enough to carry, and 135 grams lighter than my K300/4 and same converter

Since no one else has said it, I guess someone should, most of us didn't get into Pentax gear so we could buy expensive lenses. If I wanted to pay 7k for a lens, I would have gone Nikon or Canon. My 60-250, (100-400 FF) cost me 1800. That made me happy. Paying 7k for a lens for my own enjoyment would seem crazy. As someone said, heavy lenses will suck the life out of you. I honestly think this lens would suck the life out of me. 400mm f5.6 -=$450 used. 560mm f5.6=$ 7K. But, I'm a good sport, I'm willing to give it a shot for a couple weeks to see what if I like it.. Where can I rent one?

If you don't mind buying used, Tokina has a nice 400mm f/5.6 AF lens. I like mine quite a bit, and it should be about 1/10 the cost of a Pentax 560mm.

Actually did a search to see if I could rent one, but nothing found. I would spend the $100 or so to try it for a weekend, but I'm not going to ever own one. (unless I win the lottery )

Well, I'm interested. Maybe we could start a collection to buy one for the forum and rent it back out? Or maybe you all could just chip in so I can get it and then write a review....
