If I'm not mistaken, al_gundy already stated which is which. It's a matter of what difference can you spot. At this small size, I can't see any. My retinas are incapable of detecting pixie dust.

I think the second one is the 31. And looking at the grains of whatever spilled on the table and the front edge of the table and glass , image A is slightly front focused. That's the problem with these types of comparisons, if one of the lenses has the optimum focus point selected and one doesn't, you can see things that aren't really there. DoF favours the second image, with the first being just barely on the edge of the area in acceptable focus for most of the bottle with the top of the bottle being slightly beyond the area in acceptable focus.

The print "Brewed and bottled" is clear on B, but not on A. There is a messy area of light coming through the trees, leading to some really messy bokeh in A, but it's out of the frame. in B also suggesting the top one is the 28. One because the bokeh is messy, and two because it's in the frame at all.

Noting the slightly different focus points, the bottom is the better image and by a considerable margin IMHO.

They both look pretty good. You're building a case!

Best thing about FA31 is a smooth transition, even at same aperture.

Regarding the f2.8 images, Photo A is the F28 and Photo B is the FA31. As many have suggested, there is a noticable difference at f2.8. I have not attempted to calibrate the F28 with my K5 but will do so and see what difference it makes.
