Sigma 17-50/2.8 EX

Be sure to check out this lens at B&H, it's currently $100 off for a few more days. It seems to be optically better than the DA* 16-50/2.8 although it's not WR.

This lens is on my wish list, have to make my decision soon, before the sale is over.

A friend of mine has the DA 18-135, and it seems to be a solid walkabout lens. It's also much quieter than the kit DA 18-55 since it uses a DC focus motor instead of screwdrive. Most reviews seem to rate it slightly better than the 18-55 except at the tele end.

It's not just B&H, prices in Germany have dropped from ~500/$675 to ~350/$475 in the last few weeks. The models for Canon, Nikon and Sony are priced almost identically. Maybe Sigma is making room for a replacement.

Do you have any online links for this new pricing? I would order in the EU if I could find it at that price. Here in Finland the price is still ~569.

Please note, I'm talking about the fixed 2.8 aperture version, not the variable 2.8-4 version.

The offer ends Sept 25th. Since B&H is closed until the 29th, you're out of luck there. Since it's likely an instant rebate from Sigma, everybody should be offering it.

I just unboxed mine (349 at a local retail store), the size takes some getting used to...

The Sigma is still much smaller and lighter than my Tokina AT-X Pro 28-80 f/2.8:
Tokina: 120mm x 84mm, 819g
Sigma: 92mm x 84mm, 565g

The Tokina was my "everyday" lens on Pentax film bodies and I still use it on my K-5.

Hello,

Although this post is old, I was wondering about one thing. Does the `AF` button from the lens (Sigma 17- 50 F2.8) override de M C AF command from the camera body?
In my case it doesn' t. I put `AF` on the lens, but have to put `C` or `AF` from the camera body for it to truely work.

Thank you!

L.E. So I guess no. Thanks for the many answers.
