Pentax 50mm 1.2...how does it compare?

Anyone try the Pentax 50mm 1.2 lens for BW bokeh? How does it compare to the other bokeh kings out there?

If by "BW" you mean "black and white," I haven't tried it, but bokeh is a highly subjective lens characteristic. I'd suggest doing a search on Flickr or Google Images and judging for yourself. We can't really tell you what you'll like. Personally, I like my Helios 40 better as far as bokeh goes, and at times, I even like my FA 50 f/1.4 better, but the 50mm f/1.2 is still up there with the best of them.

That said, here's some samples of mine ("A" version).

Wide open:

f/1.4:

f/1.8

Click any for full size. You can download and tweak them if you want to see how they look in black and white.

I have a1.4. Was wondering if their is much improvement to justify the 1.2. Yes, was thinking black and white.

Thanks for the pix!

I had a 55/1.2 i sold it to get a DA*55/1.4 because honestly the difference between 1.2 and 1.4 in terme of bokeh is very small, and the DOF is smaller too.
Unless you want to have only the iris of the people on focus, while the rest is blurry get the 1.2, otherwise you don't really need it.

And, the outpout of the DA* is far better wide open than any 1.2 i've tried, including the praised Canon 85/1.2 and its cousin the 50/1.2.

Here is my small comparison between Pentax A 50 1.2/1.4/1.7/2.0

center -center
rob - edge

Need some time to load photos, photos are switching automatically (depends of your Internet speed)

For me Pentax 50mm f1.2 is the KING
