Don't they make these lens's anymore? I've look around the net and can't seem to find it anywhere. Are all the ones used and are hard to get? I've search ebay, keh and others. What is a good price to pay for this lens?

I've looked and I can't find them. I imagine they'll be close to a grand given the interest in Pentax long lenses, especially AF.

The price on ebay is around 1700 to 2000 US dollars ...

We are all waiting for D FA 300mm to be released

You can still get the FA* 300mm F2.8 on special order, but not the F4.5.

The 300/4.5 is a great lens, and I doubt the DFA will beat its quality or build.

The FA300 is an unbelievably good lens. It is also quite compact, which I also like. But I wish it had a tripod collar. Mine would get a lot more use if it did. I actually got a Manfrotto long lens holder but it is a pain to use and negates the benefits of the small size when travelling.

For anyone who wants a better lens case than the soft case that the lens came with, I recently bought a couple of Canon long lens cases. They are padded but hard sided, have a double zipper, and have a bulge at one end that accomodates a reversed hood. I was always careful when transporting lenses with those big reversible hoods and I feel more comfortable with these Canon cases than the original soft cases with their small velcro closures.

I figure the cases are cheap insurance protection given the cost of the lenses.

I have the F*300, which is the same lens but in white, not silver finishing AND with a tripod collar, but NOT using it (the collar, I mean) gives better results! I guess that's why they have eliminated it from the FA version.

I don't recall Pentax giving a reason for eliminating the tripod collar on the FA version, but according to tests by users the mirror slap is supposed to be worse when you use the tripod mount on the lens. Your experience clearly validates this.

The FA version has an AF/MF clutch that the F version doesn't have, as the tripod collar is not in the way anymore.

B&H has a FA*300? I don't see it on their site.

Also- I wouldn't count on the new DFA 300 to be any cheaper than the used FA*'s.

The pricing of the new lenses should be interesting. We'll have to wait and see.

You can still order (and IMO you'll still be able to for a while) the FA* 300/2.8. It'll take 2 weeks to get to you.

Definitely D FA300 is going to cost a fortune but not as much as C*non or N*kon counterpart I reckon.

I really long for weather seal feature of the new DFA. It would make me invincible in the terrible weather while I travel.

I just pray that DFA does not look like the Phoenix lens cosmeticly!

Since The D-FA won't be a * lens (or will it?), I don't think its cost will be astronomical, either.

From what I have read if you are going to produce a long focal length lens you may as well make it full frame anyway. So if you are going to make a DA*300, you may as well make it a D-FA*300 since the amount of engineering and cost is about the same. At least this is my understanding, so I may be wrong.

And if it comes with weather seals and USM it will be expensive.

I thought the new DFA 200 and 300 will be * lenses and have features of super sonic motor and weather sealed.

The cost of these gems are speculated to be in the league of competition big guns...
