I'm thinking of shrinking my 50's. But it's so damn hard. The m1.4 is so nice and dreamy the first couple of clicks of the aperture ring. After that I'd rather have the m1.7 on. The SMC tak 1.4 is as good but different wide open and sharpens up to nearly the 1.7 standards. But the heart prefers 55 1.8. The CZJ Tessar has such a film look it isn't going anywhere.

Dare I shed my 1.4ness? Selling two 1.4 lenses for one 2.8 macro adds up, but feels soo soo wrong...

Trust me, you're not alone. Sometimes, I too, wonder why I love that K55 so much, as if it's an FA limited.

It's sharp, it renders like film, and it has an odd APS-C "focal" length. But it has that certain character unique to Pentax, dare I say pixie dust?

Pixie dust sums it up for me, it sprinkled a lovely outline on this pic of a mates car.

Oh, so we're at the point in the thread where we start posting the lens pr0n. Where's the love for the lovely Индустар? It makes the K-5 almost pocket-sized! Almost...

By the way, I don't care how many 50's you have, you need one.

Had 4 lenses (50-58mm range) in a given time but owned 22 of them in total... blows my mind just thinking about it now... got bored though and totally stopped buying after this gem the S-M-C Tak 50 1.4... doesn't mean it's the best though... just love the sharpness and bokeh...(below is the list of previously owned lenses)

SMC Tak 55 2, Revuenon 55 1.2, A 50 1.4, M 50 1.4, M 50 1.7, K 50 1.4, K 55 1.8, Super Tak 55 1.8, S-M-C Tak 50 1.4, Super Tak 50 1.4, Helios 44-2, Helios 44M-4, Helios 44M , Sears 50 1.7, Yashinon 50 1.7, Pancolar 50 1.8, FA 50 1.4, F 50 1.7, Fujinon 50 1.9, Chinon 50 1.7, M 50 2

In general all 50-58's are good performers, worst i had was the A 50 1.4 (suspect a bad copy) and the M 50 2

I'm these days just a one 50 mm kinda guy (SMC Pentax-A 50mm F1.2), it's not love but she is a bit of a "Special Lady" for me and does all I ask of her.

That's most definitely the "special lady" Kerrowdown speaks of, the A 50 f/1.2.

Well, my collection of 50's changes all the time, but I think I'll put down what I have right now. This thread seems like a good spot for it.

Some of these lenses have issues. I can't do a straight comparison of all of them for various reasons--issues, no one camera to mount them all on with non-optical adapters, etc.

m42 50mm lenses
------------------------
Yashica Auto Yashinon-DX 50/1.4
Yashica Auto Yashinon-DX 50/1.7
Yashica Yashinon-DS 50/1.7

K-mount 50mm lenses
-----------------------------
Sears Auto 50/1.7
Chinon Auto 50/1.9 (x2)
SMC Pentax-M 50/2 (x2)
SMC Pentax-A 50/2
Sears Auto 50/2
Sigma 50/2.8 Macro (manual focus)

Other mount 50mm lenses
----------------------------------
Minolta MD 50/1.7
Minolta MD 50/2
Minolta AF 50/1.7
Canon FD SC 50/1.8
Yashica C/Y DSB 50/1.9 (x2)

Not-quite 50mm lenses
-----------------------------
Fujinon 55/1.8 m42 (x2) -- of those I've used extensively, this is my favorite, followed by one I don't own anymore! (Canon EF 50/1.8)
SMC Takumar 55/1.8 m42
Auto-Takumar 55/1.8 m42
Auto-Takumar 55/2 m42
Minolta Rokkor-X 45/2 SR-mount
Helios 44m 58/2 m42
Fujinon 55/2.2 m42
Riconar 55/2.2 K-mount
