A few test pictures. I think this lens is performing well after the +10 AF fine adjustment.

I'm getting some real nice pictures out of this lens. The sweet spot seems to be 6.7 for the Fstop.

I would see how many skips you can get that filter to make on some lake or pond. That lens is protected very well by the hood without some cheap thing in front of it.

I love the focal length of this lens! just shy of the full frame 35mm.

I was thinking about picking one up. I wish there was a f1.2 version

This is my next lens to get. It should complement my DA 40 and DA 70 very well.

My DA 21 (early example) focused differently up to f4 vs f5.6 and above. This problem was reported by other users in those early days. Stopped down AF results were more front-focused than wide open, making effective fine adjustment impossible. After years of frustration I sent it back to Pentax, who fixed it. It's fine now. The throw of the focus ring is very short, so just a mm of maladjustment makes a difference, despite the focal length and generally large DOF. Test whether AF shifts noticeably as between f/4 and f/5.6.
I have also decided to send this lens into Cris for proper lens adjustment. It has 2 strikes against it. 1) I purchased it used so who knows how many times it's been dropped. And 2) it is in fact an early model like yours that could have focus problems as you describe.

I really like the focal length of this lens so I think the added cost to send it into Cris for alignment is well worth it as I was considering replacing it with an FA31 which is substantially more money. I just hope I get it back before Christmas

Update:
DA21 is back from C.R.I.S. Which repaired the focus mechanism including a $25 part. Lens adjusted to manufacturers specs. Total repair cost $123. This lens is now performing superbly. Sharp at 5.6 and fantastic looking starbursts at F13. It's also much much sharper at 3.2 before it went in for calibration. I'm actually glad I was able to purchase it used at $325 and send it to C.R.I.S. for alignment as now I know it is set up properly.

I'll be interested in your overall impressions of that lens after you've had some time to use it. Wondering if this may be a contender for the FA 31 since it falls in that range.
