What to do?

Do you think it's advisable to wait for the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 and Pentax 17-70 f4 then to buy a new lens now.. Choices:

Sigma 24-70 f2.8
Sigma 24-60 f2.8
Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5

I've disregarded Tamron 28-75 as 28mm for me is not wide enough when I do landscapes.. 17 and 24 are good for me.. I find myself shooting landscapes between 20-28..

The 70 and 60 tele is good enough for portraiture..

Id wait... And if you dont want to, then Id add the sigma 18-50 f2.8 to your shortlist.

I've also disregarded the Tamron 28-70, from the same reason: just not wide enough.
Then I have disregarded pentax 17-70 'cause F4 is just to slow. So I went for Sigma 17-70. For this price it is a fantastic lens. It does not nave a fixed aperture, but for a walk-around lens it is good enough.
24mm is also not wide enough for me and 50mm is not long enough. So I found a perfect lens in Sigma 17-70....

@pentagor..

We really are on the same cliff.. ahahah.. I've used my SMC 28mm f2.8 as my wide angle lens and it really gives me the headache and usually step way back just to fill the frame with the subject..

I'm really attracted to Sigma 24-70 and 24-60.. Just don't know which is better.. On the other side, Sigma 17-70 is gaining its pace.. The Sigma 18-50 f2.8 is also there which can be used for events and landscapes..

Hmmmm.. hope I can decide soon! HELP guys!

Heh, you have one more possibility: Tamron 17-50 f2.8 and Tamron 28-70 f2.8. Those are two very good lenses, but you'll have to change them. If you don't mind that, then that's it.
Or, you can imagine any combination either with Sigma or Pentax too.

As I wrote, I was looking into this question too. I disregarded 24-60 for two reasons:
1 - it's 10mm shorter at long end then it's bigger brother 24-70
2- I kept reading that 24-70 is opticaly better
the price of those two is roughly the same (at least in UK) 24-70 is bigger though and takes massive 82mm filters...
17-70 from sigma seems to be great lens, I didn't hear much bad about it anywhere, apparently very sharp, lens... and with very good range...but f4 at 70...
so, tough call, isn't it ?
let us know which one did you choose...

The Sigma 24-60 is gainging pace since the 10mm difference in the tele part is just 1-2 step forward.. And am thinking of the upcoming Pentax DA 60-250 f4 to be used as my tele, well still considering Tamron and Sigma 70-200 f2.8..

So what's on the list

Walk around lens:
1. Sigma 24-60 f2.8
2. Sigma 24-70 f2.8
3. Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5

Tele ( in the futre since I only have a budget for a new lens + flash/accessories ) more time to save! ahaahah
1. Tamron/Sigma 70-200 f2.8 (read somewhere Tamron will be sold for US$600)
2. Pentax 60-250 f4

I'm a big fan of the Sigma 17-70. Here are a few images that will help you better understand why I like it so much: travels Photo Gallery by Heather at pbase.com.

I would go for sigma 17-70. Given John Bean's and Richard Day's constant appraisal regarding this zoo, I had a a taste of its capability with a friend's 17-70. Wow, it is light and it is definitely performing. I stop down the aperture f8 and no worries for landscape at 17mm. The cost is so low that I am seriously contemplating it as a back up copy.

i have 16-45...lens is very good but slow...
compare the orginal size images of 18-50 sigma and tamron 17-50, buy one of them...
photozone says tamron is better, but you should decide which one to buy....
btw if ultra-wide angle is the most important thing for you, you should have look at 16-45. (less lens distortion and wider)
i am the one who is confused between these three lenses....
